I have a friend who is trying to make the change to living a Christian Lifestyle. I have sent several reading material via email, but he says that he is having trouble applying what he is reading to his life... I would appreciate any advice or reading material that you can suggest.

The best advice I would give anyone is to live one day at a time and ALWAYS look for God to give you the insight as to what is right or wrong for you. Do not listen to people (or get caught up in what someone has written in books). Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. By his spirit which indwells the believer, Jesus will direct us into all truth. For He is "The Truth and the Way". If your friend is a new believer the book of John is the best start in learning about Jesus and his plan for his people. As the writers were inspired to write the bible...the Holy Spirit inspires the believers to gain wisdom when they read it.

There is no proper Christian lifestyle. That is a farce made up by various churches in order to subdue the believers into submission and money.Love in Christ and trying to be the best at life and being a good person and not judging people and instead loving people as you do yourself and being charitable to the poor are the only real Christian lifestyles that I think matter to the Lord.

When Jesus came to earth, He not only died for our sins but lead a model life of a Christian. That's the difference between Jews and Christians, Christians walk in Jesus' footsteps, and do what He did.
Encourage your friend to read the New Testament, specifically Jesus' life. Note what He said, believed, and did. Jesus got baptized, fasted often, and always did everything out of love. Jesus preached the gospel to whoever would listen, not only to the wealthy, but the poor and neglected. And He did this for God, not for the praise and encouragement of men.

I agree with John S. Then with Lady Di!! It is important to be around other believers in Christ. Does your friend attend a Bible believing sound Doctrine teaching church? The change is through Christ and Christ alone! Without being Spiritually reborn you cannot SEE the Kingdom of God. The Bible is the only source for Spiritual help!

C W,

First, I admire your willingness to invest in your friend’s life.

In the last 2 months, I have sent out newsletters that are fairly practical in their nature about basic Christianity. I think that your friend might especially benefit from the May newsletter. The May newsletter is the distillation of my understanding of the wonderful salvation that God has provided for us.

Many people have told me that they found it helpful, and a friend translated it into Portuguese to share with his friends. In my July newsletter, I will finish my 3 part series on “reigning in life” with the topic of “training for reigning.”

If you find that they are helpful to you, feel free to copy them and email them to your friend, or you can refer your friend to my Yahoo! 360 page where they are posted. Your friend should find them to be informative, challenging and encouraging.

There is a book called “The Practice of the Presence of God” by Brother Lawrence that I wholeheartedly recommend. It is a short book and fairly inexpensive, but it is great. There is more than one version of the book, but I have only read the one with the white above red cover, so it is the only one that I can recommend. It is very simple and very, very practical. I believe that it is $6 on Amazon.com

God bless.

One thing that really helps me is Bible study, of course, but the dailydevotion book by Max Lucado called 'Grace for the Moment". I actually have had mine since 2001. Every year I begin again. I just put down the year and re-read it. It is always new and fresh. Also I have the new bible for just reading called THE MESSAGE, it is excellent. It's an every day bible. I strongly recommend it/
