Simple answer: The Catholic Church is the true church of Jesus. It is the only church that can trace its roots directly back to Jesus and the apostles.
I highly recommend Catholic Answers (www.Catholic.com) as an online source of information about the Catholic Church and Catholic doctrine. Start with the booklet "Pillar of Fire" (linked below) and browse as your curiosity leads you.
I also recommend examining the doctrine of "sola scriptura" ("the Bible alone"). There is sufficient evidence, both in the Bible itself and in the history of the Church, to demonstrate that Jesus gave the authority of doctrine to the Church, as opposed to the Bible.

Jesus Christ Himself, started the Catholic Church. He gave it His personal guarantee that "The gates of hell will not prevail against it." To not be in the Catholic Church is to risk not being on the winning team.
Besides, the Catholic Church has the Fullness of the Truth. Non-Catholic Christian religions have some of the Truth, and some of them have more than others. That's not a bad thing, but why would you be willing to settle for less than all the Truth when you can have access to the Fullness of the Truth.
Granted, there are many Protestants out there doing more with less Truth than some Catholics do with all of it - but that doesn't mean the Catholic Church is bad.
And, frankly, since you have turned your back on the Catholic Church, you have indeed turned your back on God. This does not necessarily mean you're going to hell. But consider that if you reject the Catholic Church, you reject the Sacraments you are going to need for your Salvation.
I've read some of the answers people have given you. They are not all bad. Rather than looking for the answer that validates how you want to be, you should be seeking the answers that guide you to how you 'should' be.

If you are asking this questions you most likely aren't ready to get back into your faith as a Catholic. I suggest you take some time and pray about it on your own. Nobody can tell you if you are ready for it but yourself and God. If you listen with an open heart he will answer this question for you.
Have you ever thought about going to other churches to see which one is right for you? Perhaps there is something about the catholic faith that is preventing you from truly wanting to go back? I was raised baptist , but I never felt that was the place I should be. I visited many different churches and found one that was much more fit for me. One that I connected to the lord in far more than the baptist faith did for me. If you haven't tried it, perhaps you should, it would make your decision a lot more educated.

The only possible reason I could advise you to go back to the Catholic Church is “To lay the ax to the root of the tree.” For there is NO good fruit there and by decree of YHVH it must be hewn down and cast into the fire. If you can’t or won’t see or smell the rotten fruit therein, then it is too late--go back and join with Ephraim and his idols, but be certain that YHVH judges the hearts and deeds of men in accordance to the light that He has already sent to the world in the form of His Son. You have some light already. Do you choose to walk toward it or away from it? Straight is the gate and narrow the way, and few there be that find it. But broad is the gate and wide the way that leads to destruction and many there be that go therein. This is one case where the numbers don’t lie. The Catholic Church is the largest cult in the world and their numbers grow everyday. Do you call that wide or narrow? Choose wisely, your eternal fate depends on your correct choice.

If you're a beleiver, you should go with that. You don't have to attend a Catholic church or practice Catholicism if it's not what you want to do. Are you a Christian? If so, and you do wish to get back into going to church on a routine basis, find a Christian church in your area. That's what my husband and I did. I am Lutheran and he is Catholic. The church that we go to doesn't condemn us for that. We actually enjoy going and learn more and more about the Bible and God every week!
Hope that this helped you and God Bless!

Just for those who aren't aware, Catholics ARE Christians. It was the first Christian Chruch and all other Christian Churches (Lutheran, Baptist, etc) branched off from it.
You should only return to the Catholic Church if you believe in the Sacraments and the teachings of the Church. I recommend you look into the Catholic Faith (http://www.catholic.org/prayers/beliefs.php) and also look at the steps to follow to join the Catholic Church (http://www.catholic.org/prayers/become.php). If you don't believe the teachings, don't go back. I'd hate for you to return to something your heart isn't truly in. Peace be with you and God bless.

I too started life out in the Catholic church.
But I do not think it is the only place God lives.
Christ taught that God is with all of us and the need of the Church is not as great as the need of the soul, That if we believe in God honor his laws, Then we can pray from anywhere at any time.
If you feel that you need to go back to the Catholic church . Then by all means do..But what ever you decide, Make sure that you are comfortable with it and with God , That is what matters.

It isn't about you going back to any religion at all. Go, instead, forward to a personal relationship with Jesus. I know that the Catholic church doesn't believe you can have a relationship with Him outside the church, but you really can. The prophet Joel prophecied that anyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. It doesn't say any church or denomination. Put your trust in Jesus and He will help you with your decision.

You don't have to go back to the Catholic church in order to come back to God. Just start by talking to God. Tell Him what's on your heart and that you have a desire to know Him.

No one should tell you what religion to follow. You have to believe to be a catholic, so if you don't believe in what they believe in, then maybe its not the relgion for you. Maybe you do believe in something else. Ask yourself what you feel, and do you believe in God. There are many denominations of Christianity and there might be one better suited for you. Or maybe you are just looking for a reason to go back to Catholism...Who knows. Think about it and I'm sure your own reasons will come.
