The best ways to prevent heartburn are 1)Cut down on foods that contain grease, excessive salt, and spices 2) Eat at regular times each day 3) Cut back on caffien and sugars 4) portion your meals 5) Take plenty of time to relaxe and unwind before and after meals.
If you have heartburn more often when you lay down at night, this could be acid relfux. Elevate the head of your bed 3-6 inches (A brick under the legs is good. Pillows under your head will just cramp your stomache due to bending and make it worse), don't eat for at least 2 hours before bedtime, and see a doctor soon. Acid Reflux can cause extensive damage to the larynx if left untreated.

There is a website about heartburn. www.about.comheartburn.com. Has good advice. Also taking a digestive enzyme before every meal helps. Apples help because of the pectin. A tsp. of honey before bedtime will help at night. Remember to sleep on your left side. It promotes digestion.
