I want to mount an aircraft antenna on the roof of our building and run a coax down to my desk to hook into my hand held comm. Just not sure if it is workable.

Technically, if you are using the VHF antenna, it should work for your handheld, and you could get better reception too due to its larger size than your handheld. One drawback is that this is likely to drain your battery faster. Have a go.

Be sure that it is workable. But if antenna and radio are not well coupled, system range could be effected but it will most probably work. ( for only transmission)
