You need to get a bigger litter box, one approximately the size of your back yard or the local park would be preferable, and carry with you a set of tongs or a shovel to keep it clean......sorry but St. Bernards usually do not have a litter box.....

Well maybe because St. Bernards aren't cats and dogs usually go outside.

yes because hes a dog. However since noone else will give you a solution I will.. There are puppy pads or even old fashion newspaper will do the trick. If you'd like him to go outside put the pad or paper in front of the door , when you see him go for the pads/paper you grab him and go outside...once thats done you love him and cuddle him and really go all out to praise him...he will love the attenetion and after a while will associate this with going outside. So he will try to do this to get that attention. I also associate the treats with going outside.

St. brenard?? as in dog?? Well, how old is he?? Did you just get him from a pound or whatever as a middle-aged dog?? If so, did he use a litterbox before?? How big is his box, and do you have a yard that he can use instead? here are only a few questions you can ask yourself.

If he has used it previously... it may be he is marking territory (if another animal or dog is hanging around) or he may be too big for it, or if he is getting older, he feels more natural if he is outside, or maybe it smells bad like it needs a good cleaning. Sometimes the smell gets trapped in the box. Also check with your vet...

He's too big for a litter box and probably thinks his owner is a nut
