Just recently got my first tattoo, and about a week after it started itching. Not all the time just periodically. Does anyone know if Tattoo's itch some while they are healing? I thought maybe it would be the same as a scab. I know when I get scab's they itch as the skin underneath is healing.

yes it is healing.....just let it take its course...and as hard as it may seem...DO NOT scratch it or scratch off the scab...it will mess up the coloring!

It is normal for a tatoo to itch because it is a scab that is trying to heal. Most importantly - don't scratch it or you risk infection. Just make sure you clean it twice a day with antibacterial soap and keep it moisurized and out of the sun. Nothing to worry about with the ithching, though - mine was the same way. My tatoo artist actually told me it would itch after a day or so, and it did but it healed quite nicely.

Your tattoo will itch for about 2 weeks because it is healing. It is just like a cut it will take time to heal. My husbands took about 3 weeks.

It itches because it is healing.....just like anything else with a scab.

While it is in the healing process, Yes sometimes they itch. I know this from my b/f who has a couple. Just keep applying a lotion to it for several days.

Yeah it's because it's healing. Just make sure not to scratch it or you may loose color!! And when/if it scabs don't pick the scabs off!

yea...they itch big time, like any scab,but don't pick or scratch it! it is technically a soar that you want to heal well...it scars and your tat is screwed up. keep A&D ointment on it till the itching stops.

Mine is still itching - got it in May. I use Black Cat tatoo salve on it & that helps a lot. It is still healing - & maybe you have some reaction to the ink. Good luck!!

The skin is just healing itself. Totally normal.

YES, IT'S JUST BECAUSE OF THE HEALING PROSES, AN ITCH MEANS TINY PAINS SO SMALL THAT TO US WE THINK IT'S JUST AN ITCH.ALSO YOUR ITCH COULD MEAN THAT YOU SKIN THERE IS REALLY DRY.USE AN MEDICATED ANTI ITCH CREAM
