I am looking for dresses with the style of an antebellum look to them. They dont have them at davids bridal and I have been to several websites.

Actually they do have them a david's bridal. You might try a costume shop. Don't forget that just because it has some stuff on it you don't want doesn't mean it can't be removed. They normally have to be special ordered in and you won't get to try it on till after it comes in. Just ask for a dress with a hoop skirt. They should know what you are talking about.

Go to a fabric store and look in the Simplicity and McCalls pattern books. These types of dress patterns will be in the back, under costume.

Online link for Simplicity patterns: http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=4&type=19&sec=0&id=57&startrow=1

Get an experienced (as in, check references and see her work in a similar style) seamtress to make it for you, leaving seam allowances (in case you retain water due to nerves), and customize it your colors, with laces and such handpicked by you.

If you do that kind of wedding make sure you(and the other ladies) have practiced manuvering arounded in a hoop skirt----or your wedding will end up looking like a comedy of errors!

IT IS PROBABLY BEST IF YOU GO TO A FABRIC STORE AND LOOK AT PATTERNS AND HAVE IT MADE. LOOK AT THE COSTUME PATTERNS, THEY HAVE A LOT OF CIVIL WAR STYLE GOWNS THAT ARE VERY AUTHENTIC. ALSO GOOGLE PAST PATTERNS, ALTER YEARS, AND HEIDIE MARSH. THESE SITE CARRY A FULL LINE OF PATTERNS AND READY MADE CLOTHING FOR THE RE-EN ACTOR
