From an aquaintance. It says a few words, is cuddly and gets along with other animals too.

OK, it must be a cockatoo. That would make a difference.

Ya, a cockatiel is much cheaper than a cockatoo. Make sure you know. You can probably get it down to 1200, depending on the size of the cage. He may live until 50. There was a 6 year old with cage for 1500.

Check out the spca too. Just make sure it has the right temperment for you.

Absolutely not!
I live in Canada and I am in the pet industry, you can get a baby bird with a cage for that unless it is a rare kind of cockatoo. Can you find out what kind it is? I'm guessing its an Umbrella or a Citron as they are the most common. They can be bought for around $1,000 and a nice cage is less than $500.
I am in Ontario, feel free to contact me!

NO - No - NO - No - that's way too much money for a bird that age.... I believe their lifespan isn't much more than that and, you can get a bird for a lot less at a pet store and even a breeder for less with a cage. No, whether it can speak or not.. that's too much money.
I just gave my cockatiel away for about $100... he was less than 10 years old and he had a cage... there are some deals out there and $1500 IS NOT A DEAL.... the guys ripping you off... in my opinion!

For a cockatoo, this is a reasonable price with or without the cage.

Really for a 14 yr old cockatiel he only has maybe another 5 - 7 years left. I think that would be too much.

I think thats a bit high for the age of the bird. I own two australian pink cockatoos and we payed that much for them when they were babies. They had all their shots, got feed for a year and a few toys.
