That depends on the state you are from. Every state has different laws dealing with child safety in vehichles. In MO the law will change on July 1.
The child needs to be 4'9" tall and 80lbs to not use a booster seat. This is the same regs usually used for safe seating in the front seat of a vehichle because of air bags and where the seat belt hits the childs body.
Most vehichles (car or truck) are made for persons who are 4'9" or taller and some are made for even taller persons. I am 5'5" and have my PT Cruiser belt set at the lowest point and it is still too high for safety for me.
If the truck has no back seat (standard pickup) then the child must sit in the only seat available. Just make sure the belt is used and have a booster seat that straps in if possible (not just sits on the seat).

You don't really have enough info..but here goes...in any vehicle (except one row seating) no child under the age of 12 (or the size of an average 12 yr old) should sit in the front seat of any vehicle...ESPECIALLY those with air bags. It has more to do with the position of the seat belt and the windshield more than anything. However...if there is no airbag...and the child is either large enough to be out of a car seat...(8 yrs old or 80 lbs.) then there is no "law" about it. under 8 yrs. make sure to buckle that safety seat in first. P.S. NEVER leave children under the age of 16 in a vehicle with the keys in it.....!

Your best bet is to contact your local police department and ask them what your local laws are. Where I live, you have to have new borns in the back seat of your car in a saftey seat facing the back of the car. When they get older, you can turn the baby seat around to face the front. Each state has their own set of laws. Put a police man should have that answer for you.
God bless you

As long as you meet the age, height, and weight requirements, you can sit in the front. I believe the age requirement in the US is 8 years old. The weight requirement is 80 pounds. And I'm not sure of the height requirement. You should check your local traffic laws though.

You don't say what kind of truck. If it's a commercial big truck, most companies won't let a rider less than 12 years old, and must be authorized.

Most trucks only have a front seat, so I don't think it really matters as long as you are properly restrained.
