I've been reading for several days, profiles of all the Proclaimed atheists who answer & ask questions here. I've went read threw Blogs, (that where listed) and followed up on many leads. Seems to me there are at least 12 "regulars" who also celebrate Christmas. Why is that?

Most of the "Atheist" on this Q& A are dumb little pimply faced kids who think it's "COOL" to say they don't believe in God. If they where true Atheist, they wouldn't admit to you that they "fall into the commercialism trap" . Atheist don't do Christmas. I also about fell out of my Chair laughing at the "so called Atheist" that told you that CHRISTmas wasn't a CHRISTian holiday, and it had nothing to do with CHRIST. Most of these kids parents don't even know they are typing this stuff. The majority of these kids would turn Christian at the drop of a hat...or for a new ring tone for their precious cell phones. I was talking to a school teacher the other day. She was telling me she overheard a group of kids bragging about being atheist, only to see half of them at a confirmation ceremony she attended that Sunday. Those kids BEGGED her not to tell their parents.

Christmas has become such a different holiday than what it should be, so commercialized, i guess anybody can celebrate it if they want presents and don't want to feel left out, but they really shouldn't if they are not Christian, next thing you know they are going to start lighting candles on a menorah because they like the way it illuminates their home.

Do all the Pagans celebrate Christmas as if it were a pagan holiday?, no you all are celebrating it as Christians do what with the Santa, and the birth of Jesus, and the presents, Christmas is no longer what you all know it once was, so then it should no longer be considered pagan simple as that.
i think that atheists should be glad that we Christians made Christmas such a beautiful holiday, religious or not.

Because Christmas has become more then a religious holiday. We even have it as a national holiday that is observed by the majority of Americans Christian or not in one way or another.

I wasn't around when the Pilgrims ate with the Indians yet I celebrate Thanksgiving and I don't believe in the Pagan rituals and beliefs of Halloween yet I celebrate it by wearing costumes and parting....It's all just about celebration for many.We Americans love to celebrate and will use any excuse to do so....Take it as a compliment that non Christians celebrate our holiday!

Many Christians don't celebrate Christmas religiously nowadays, it's more about fun and spending time with your family. Believe it or not, atheists enjoy having fun and spending time with their families too! Plus, the majority of businesses are closed because of Christmas and this effects atheists. Maybe if it didn't effect us so much we wouldn't take advantage of it. Besides, it's rude to turn down a gift, no matter what the reason.

Because christmas is a meaningless holiday that isn't actually even Christian. Go look up "Origin of Christmas" online or in the Encyclopedia and see what it says. I'm not an atheist, but I can understand why it probably wouldn't bother them or even matter for them to celebrate it.

A better question would be "if you're a Christian why do you celebrate Christmas?"

The celebrations of Christmas were around for a long, long time longer than Christianity. It was a pagan festival that Christianity adopted and changed to eliminate pagan rituals and convert the world to their made-up religion.

Atheists celebrate Christmas NOW as a time to get together with family and friends and celebrate life with our loved ones.

Christmas isn't ALWAYS about religion. It CAN be about TRADITION too. And just a good day to get the family together. Atheists, believe it or not, CAN be dedicated family peole that care about spending time together and showing appreciation for one another through gift giving. So don't freak out about them "not having a right to do that" or anything.

Christmas has become a social custom in America. So what?

Better for people to celebrate the birth of a god than not.

Christmas is a pagan holiday, so the more accurate question would be why do Christians celebrate pagan holidays? Christmas and Easter are both pagan holidays.

At this point Christmas has very little to do with Christ. It's big business. It is socially frowned upon not to give gifts. I remember a couple of years ago in Sears. There were signs all over the store saying"give, give, give". I pronounced it, "spend, spend, spend" That's the gift of giving at Christmas.

I've often wondered that myself...why celebrate a holiday that was originally in celebration of Christ's birth if you do not believe he exists or is who he is??? It just goes to show how the world can commercialize everything and anything.
