It is difficult to begin a boxing career but you have to begin by joining some type of boxing club. I am not sure where you live but I am sure that they are pretty much everywhere especially in the bigger cities. Whoever owns the boxing gym will be your personal sponsor and there you will also have a chance to train with speed bags, heavy bags, jump rope, sparring other boxers and lots of practice before they sign you up for the amatures. You have to start at the back door before you get to the front! It takes a lot of heart, dedication and time. On the plus side, if you win a couple amature fights then you will be qualified to go to golden gloves and that is when you start making the money. I know friends of mine who make up to two thousand dollars a fight! Goodluck!

first - know the difference between amateur and pro. no pay in a amateurs, but you use headgear and the scoring is very different.
best place to start is check with USABoxing and look up the closest affiliated gym. if you really want to fight amateur then you join, and if you're good you'll get in the right tournaments and have a shot at the Olympic Training Center in Coloroda Springs. If you can't find a nearby USABoxing affiliate, next check with the Police Activities League (PAL). They usually have boxing as part of their programs, and can get you signed up into USABoxing if they have a program. They also sponsor tournaments. Golden Gloves is still around - but again most of the fighters who participate come from the above mentioned gyms.
if you can't find either - look up your closest regular boxing gym and go down and tell them you wanna learn to fight. even if it's a pro gym - there's guys around who will know about local amateur programs - and you will find that if you are sincere, boxers and trainers are some of the coolest, most genuine people you will ever meet. just don't bring an attitude or they'll knock it clean. The first club i boxed at was Santa Ana Boxing club - which - no kidding - was in a rough part of town and separated from a bar by just a curtain - but it was magic. if you've got the passion - go for it and good luck!

Go to a gym, not a boxing gym, and get yourself in shape. Once you've done that it's time to get boxing lessons. Try using the internet or recomendations to get good lessons. Once you have learned how to fight sighn up for a team, and go through some real fights. After that you should be a pro. If you really like it get yourself a sponser and join the pros.

This takes longer then it seems.

Go to a boxing club in your town and observe and obsorb others learning how to box. Go to at least 4, if no more in your town just go to neighboring towns to see which trainers seem to be doing a good job with their subjects. If you still want to persue this sport, then decide on the trainer, speak to him to learn what you need to do next, ie., what type of exercise you need to start doing for starters to get yourself in shape for the boxing training. After you have accomplished this and started working with your selected trainer, make sure you get yourself a manager who will assist you with schedules to compete with opponents, and you're off to amateur boxing which will, possibly lead to professional boxing matches. This positive thinking is needed for you to succeed in a boxing career.

Check with a YMCA for a boxing league. There is a link to "kosportspromotions" that will direct you to the American Boxing and Atheletic Association--their program is called "tough gloves." Better still, ask about the golden gloves tournament program. with the USA boxing association, which feeds candidates to the US Olympic teams. Good luck.

Are you good at all? You must have a lot of determination, willpower, and even stubbornness to make it a career, I would imagine.

Join a local martial arts academy or boxing place. Major cities have them in the yellow pages. I know there is one in the Pacific Beach ("PB") area of San Diego, CA.

We wish you good luck.

A ton of running and gym work. Get yourself in really great shape.

Then go to a boxing gym and spar. If you're any good, somebody's going to approach you about it.
