Hi, how are you, hot outside isn't it, did you see the game last night....
Seriously, am I the only one who is beyond irritated by the mundane repetitveness of small talk? I can understand if the questions are genuine, but I see people ask these kinds of questions just to fill dead conversation, or because they feel obligated to have these meaningless conversations...maybe they don't know they are meaningless...

Hot outside ain't it? just joking sorry I couldn't resist. I think some people are uncomfortable with silence and therefore have to fill the silence with words of some kind.

I think these types of conversation repeat all the time because they are subjects on which people can relate. Anybody can talk about weather or their general well being, but not everybody can talk about politics, stocks, computers, etc.

So, these mundane conversations are a way to get started talking and make conversation. Often times more meaningful conversations will emerge from the mundane ones.

perhaps you do no longer truly comprehend as a lot approximately criminal arguments as you think of you do. in terms of ways the U. S. preferrred courtroom has been explaining it is interpretation of the equivalent secure practices Clause of the 14th replace, there are a minimum of two diverse stages the courts use to scrutinize the excuses that government can provide in protection of its rules that "discriminate." initially, rules that "discriminate" against gay particularly everyone isn't presumptively unacceptable. the burden isn't on the government to coach that the guidelines are "narrowly adapted to serve a compelling objective," that's the common that the courts save on with to racially discriminatory rules. for this reason, instead, the criminal common that could desire to be utilized is the "rational foundation try," wherein case the government purely has the burden as an instance that the type at concern is rationally concerning a valid governmental objective. If there is ANY rational justification for the regulation, no be counted how a lot you're making think of that it is tenuous, then the regulation could desire to be upheld. My argument for any state regulation that bans gay marriage is the component you suggested in #3: at once couples can for sure reproduce and gay couples do no longer. Any rational and independent person can see that heterosexual coupling can and many times does bring about duplicate, yet gay coupling by no ability does. You have been rapid to point out the exceptions to my typical assertion concerning the frequency with which heterosexuals reproduce. Exceptions to the generalization by no ability do be counted while the *rational foundation try* is the criminal common it particularly is utilized by courts.

They're just trying to break the ice. It does get irritating answering the same questions all day long. I work in customer service and almost every customer comments on the weather and other meaningless topics. Then again, I don't want to talk with them about anything personal either.

For the same reason you've undoubtedly asked this question multiple times to multiple people (I don't mean on Yahoo! Answers, I mean in general). "[A}m I the only one who is beyond irritated by the mundane repetitveness of small talk?" is small talk itself.

Those kinds of questions and answers are usually made by people you see every day, but don't know very well. It's making small-talk with a neighbor, mail deliverer, parking attendant, the person who does your hair or nails, the clerk in a grocery store, someone in another department where you work.

When people get to know each other, their conversations would, obviously, be a lot different - more personal, and topic specific.

It's a good way to start to talk to someone you don't know very well. It can lead to more interesting conversations as people get to talking. My husband and I just got back from Ireland and the weather was uncharacteristically warm there. Everyone we met told us about how nice the weather was and how we were lucky it wasn't raining. We then started talking about the weather where we are from which lead into other conversations like the state we live, Disneyland, politics, education, etc. It's just an ice breaker.

Most of our conversation is small talk. If it is 95 degrees out, to me, that is important at the time. Or other people may see a hockey game as important.

On the other hand, you must admit, quantum physics or Einstein's theory of relativity is beyond most people.

I don't know, but certainly these meaningless conversations are so irriting when you don't want to talk to anybody and the people try to break the ice with them.
