Some just peel up and the glue is gooey but some come up in pieces. Is there a different way to take these up other than the big scraper tool?

Heat them up with a heat gun before you scrape. They'll come up much easier.

What are you planning to put down to replace them? It might be easier just to take up the underlayment they're stuck to, or put new underlayment over them.

Cut tile with a razor knife from corner to corner to make an X. use a hand torch like for plumbing to heat it up quick. Thats what the pros do. You can also use a razor scraper after heating up.

Scrape out the ones you can using different sized putty knives, then for the rest (or pieces of the rest) that you can't get up, get yourself a heat gun... you can pick one up at a hardware store for about $30-50. Heat those suckers up and they will come off without a problem.

If it is floor tiles then IMO the easiest way would be to rent a machine to do it. I just rented one this weekend and it was 35.00. Most rental companies have them.

you might try heating them up with a hair dryer before you try to remove them. it might help loosen the glue.
