Oh boy, yeah, threaten me with eternal torture. That sure makes me see the light. I think I'll go convert right now. Then I can threaten people with an eternity of torture too! Which would be wrong if I did it myself, but it's god, so it's all cool! I can take as much pleasure in it as I want! That's the religion for me, yep.

Sooooooooo....someone who doesn't believe in God should try really hard to or pretend they do or go through the motions of believing just in case? I've witnessed many "Christians" doing those things.
Look, I understand what you're getting at, but you don't make a very strong point. An Atheist doesn't see that standing before God is ever going to be a possibility so this question can only be intended to incite an argument.
I personally think that Christians (or any member of any religion, really) should lead by example, counsel when possible, be understanding and helpful, NOT judgmental, truly care about the person in question, (not about being right) and pray for that person if you really fear for their salvation.

As many of you have answered and said that we cant see God, so He is not there, or many similar things. However let me tell you one thing, God is real. I have never seen Him, but by the way He changed my life, and freed me from horrible addictions, I can witness that He is real. Some said that merciful God wouldn't let everybody go to hell. You're right, that's why He sent His own Son to die for your and my sins. However it is up to every single one of us to decide. I urge you guys to think on this, I know that many of you if had the chance would tear this comment apart. Yet the soul inside every single one of you is need of salvation, which God can only give, its free. Being good and doing good things will give you a free pass to heaven. The Bible says that we are not saved by good works, so that no one would be proud. Yet rather through Jesus. I hope you guys think about this, after all, it is your eternity that is being dealt with. If you would like to get saved and go to heaven you must admit that you're a sinner. When a person realizes that and asks Jesus to forgive him/her, He will, that was the reason He died on the cross. Thank you for your time. Jesus loves you.!

Well I am not an Atheist but I do know that God does not just through people into a lake of fire. you will simply not inherit the kingdom of God and you will never know you even existed. God is love and he only wants people to do good. You make it sound like God is a threatening God and that we should be scared of him or else! That is simply not true God gives us free will and he forgives all sins. If people choose not to believe in him that is there free will and theirs alone. After all why would God be as bad as Hitler was by burning people to death. By saying that God will throw you into the lake of fire is simply not correct it only says that the Devil and his demons will be thrown into the lake of fire not people.

Nope, I sure wouldn't!
If it were true (there's no chance of that) I would be proud that I'd had the courage to stand up to a god who is nothing more than an evil bully. It's right there in your question, don't you get it? 'God's gonna get you if you don't watch out.'
Believing in the bible god accounts for the most of the cowardly, lying, and immoral christian behavior seen in English speaking countries today.
You should really read your silly book. Satan comes out as a much better imaginary friend. Maybe you should follow him instead.

My decision to not believe in god is a honest one. I doubt a good and fair god would punish me for a honest decision I made in my life. If you think all he cares is being praised, you worship a monster and not a god of love and justice. If justice is done, I have nothing to fear. And I suspect you do actually believe god doesn't give a damn about honesty, but all about his ego, praise me!
The whole "what if" ain't much of an argument to change an atheist's mind.
Now, "lets say" muslims are right? Quick! Become muslim! Or else we'll meet in hell ;)
Atheist here, former catholic and former christian.

Obviously, for an Athiest, the confrontation with God will never happen. But, all right, let's just say you are right. My regret will be that so few people took the time to learn the proper usage of the language.
And god let this happen.

Oh come on, that's like saying, what if the earth is flat and it turns out that if we walk too far we will fall off, then would you regret believing the earth is round? The "what ifs" argument can apply to anything, even proving atheism right if you use it correctly!

I have lived a good life...I have done nothing to hurt others and only tried to better myself. If your God condemns me to hell for not worshiping him then I will know I made the right decision. That is not a God I would worship even if I knew for sure he was real. Going to church makes you a good person like standing in my garage makes me a car.
