I am not really comfortable wearing dresses and skirts but I will if I have to.

A semi-formal evening wedding would call for a cocktail dress, but what fun is a wedding if you are not comfortable? I would suggest a more formal pant suit (not something you would wear to the office). There are some great looking tuxedo suits tailored just for women - very sexy with a low cut blouse. OR - you can do a wide legged flowy pant with a great long caftan-type blazer. Something sheer-ish that goes almost to the knee, but is embellished somehow with either beading, or embroidery to make it a little more formal.

You can really explore this pant idea. Maybe something simple, but the material is a gorgeous silk shantung that makes the pant suit look formal/cocktail. Perhaps you go with colors like champagne. Something elegant.

Above all else. Be comfortable and enjoy!

OMG. A semi-formal wedding after 5 is not the place to wear a business suit, a sundress, capri pants, or even slacks, unless they are tuxedo slacks or other formal slacks, tailored, and extraordinarily dressy. A semi-formal wedding during this time of year should be a dress or a very very nice skirt with a wonderfully decorated top - I also agree with the person above about a beautiful tuxedo outfit possibly being good for you. You should not look like you are going to work - you should look like you are going to a party - a nice one at that.

I'm going to link to attire that is appropriate. It WILL NOT include suits, capris, or anything casual in nature. If the wedding party has been specific enough to specify that it's semi-formal, you need to abide by it and not listen to half the crap listed here. The men are supposed to be in jackets and ties, if not suits, so wearing something casual will make you stick out like a sore thumb.

Well, there’s no dress or skirt “requirement” for weddings. :o) However, a semiformal evening wedding usually calls for a cocktail dress, but it’s not absolutely necessary. You don’t mention if the wedding is inside or outside, and that could make a difference in exactly what you choose, but here are my general guidelines. First, pick something you’re comfortable in – if you really don’t want to wear a skirt, don’t. Second, choose something that you might wear on a date – a little dressed-up, but not like prom or anything. For example, you could wear a pair of black pants and a cute tank top with a pair of black heels. For your pants, choose a fabric that’s dressy – not denim, not sweats ;o). For your top, choose something comfortable that you feel good in. It should be nicer than a T-shirt and it should be modest, but otherwise, just choose what you like and what will be appropriate for the expected weather. For shoes, I would recommend heels, but they don’t have to be super high or anything. You could also wear flats, and there are a lot of cute ones out there right now. If people are used to you avoiding skirts/dresses, it really won’t be a big deal if you don’t show up in one. For more ideas, check out the links below, which also comment on suits (OK if they’re dressy enough, not just plain business suits), including white suits (white’s not a great idea for a wedding). Good luck!

WEAR:
# a fun floral dress
# a skirt and a sweater set with slingback shoes. (H&M has some surprisingly affordable and stylish skirts right now that will work for a daytime wedding)
# a light colored suit – try to stay away from black, navy or anything that looks like you're going to the office.
# a beautiful hat that coordinates with your outfit.

DO NOT WEAR:
# White. (This rule has relaxed some, and you can get away with wearing a printed dress with a white background and some cream colored clothing. Just be careful not to upstage the bride.)
# Black to a daytime wedding
# Jeans
# Anything too sexy or revealing
# Anything torn, with holes, stained, too big or too small for you!
# Anything sleeveless or strapless to a religious wedding. Bring a wrap to cover your shoulders.

Wear a nice pant suit. Now they have the cute palro jackets (crop jacket) with the semi dressy capris. An all white suit with a colored cami with sandals and a bag in the same color would be nice. Pick a color that accents your skin tone, but lime green or a reddish purple would be very nice with all white and would give it a festive or dressy flare. Even a medium or hot pink. Just don't do black, you don't want to wear black and white to a wedding.

Have fun.

Black has become very appropriate for weddings. If you don't like to wear dresses, there are some very nice pant suits available. Women don't have to wear dresses anymore, so many stores have a wide selection. Have fun.

No, if your not comfortable wearing a dress or skirt don't because you don't want to be misseayable all night. Nice dress pants and top would work. I understand I don't like wear them unless I have to.

You should definitely wear a dress. It's summer time, so a nice, light, summer dress will do. Maybe with a matching hat. Make sure you have shoes to match, too. You want to be a knockout (it's a wedding, you're going to meet lots of guys, if you want), but don't overdo it. Good luck!
