And, "follow me and you'll go to heaven" isn't teaching.

The question was what makes him a better teacher. I guess the fundamentalists have so far responded by saying that he taught a different lesson: that he was the son of God, as if there were no other lessons about how to lead a good life.

This is what is sad about fundamentalists, they don't actually live by what Jesus taught. They focus only on witnessing his sacrifice and divinity. (Don't get me wrong thats a powerful faith to have.) They think thats the end of the story, and don't try to live by his actual "teaching."

He taught us to have compassion and humility (like Lao Tzu). He taught us that the meek are loved by God, not the rich and powerful. He never said one single word about homosexuality and abortion, and yet that is all fundamentalists talk about.

For example, Jesus unequivocally said that a rich man would not get into heaven, its right there in the Gospel. (He never said such things about homosexuals.) So, their ethical priorities and actual teachings are completely devoid of any Christianity.

It's not his teaching, it's who he is.

Think of it this way: I had an opportunity to attend a talk about Font design (one of my hobbies) with a real technician at Adobe recently through a friend of a friend. Why did I think this was better than the various forums I read? Because it's a real, paid, day to day font designer from Adobe, that makes a large chunk of it's money from selling high quality fonts. It's not anything in particular that he said. (In fact, I'd heard most of what he said before, it turned out to be a pretty basic introduction which was kind of disappointing.) But it had a lot more weight coming from him than from the other sources, because of who he is.

The same with Lao Tzu. Jesus is the Son of God! He was there when the world was made, he has it planned out from beginning to end, so of course his words carry more weight. Lao Tzu (at least I believe) was a prophet, but that means he got what he said from Christ, not the other way around.

Lao Tzu vs. Jesus Christ the Son of God

Who is Lao Tzu?

It wasn't what Jesus said. Unlike Lao Tzu, Jesus lived a righteous life and even though by nature, God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped but made himself a servant, obeying God even to death on a cross.
Conclusion: Jesus laid down his life in a blatent demonstration of Godly love for us, Lao Tzu did not.

Lao Tzu was a man and reasoned as a man. Jesus is God and in him is perfect reasoning.

It is not what he said so much as what he did. He gave his own life as a sign that as the "sacrificial lamb" his death would absolve us of our sins and pave the way for God in our lives.

Whether or not you believe he was the son of God, he was an actual person who was actually crucified. Whether or not you believe he rose from the dead, no other person in human history has so influenced the world,

Christianity has flourished for over 2000 years since his death. No other human being ever has, and likely ever will, have such an impact on mankind.

Jesus spoke in parables which are stories so the people could directly relate to what he was saying...also every word that came out of his mouth has the power to change your life!

How about "I am the son of God"? That fact alone makes his teachings more important and applicable than anyone else's.
