Why is it so easy for you? Faith is belief in something with NO EVIDENCE. That's just... stupid. Imagine if we believed everything we were told by anyone automatically, without requiring any explanation or hard facts? That's insane, why would we do that? If I tell you to jump off a 40 story building, that it'll be ok, there's a bunch of delicious cotton candy at the bottom that will break you fall and be a delicious treat, oh, but don't look, it's invisible, would you believe me on faith? Why should you get to pick and chose which things you believe with no evidence? Why is one thing that doesn't exist better than another?

See the thing is that you don't _know_ the statements you make to be true. I have no hatred for Jesus. He was a man with a beautiful vision. It was a tragedy that he died young when he should have been able to live a long life. But I can't believe that he died for me and I can't see how it's possible that he wants me to love him. The truth is that you are only speculating when you say that.
I do have faith. I have faith in my family, faith in myself, and faith that sooner or later people will truly start to act in a positive way on this earth. I don't have faith in what you are telling me, but I believe that that is my right.

An atheist, by definition, doesn't believe in any god or organized religion. Aside from atheists, it doesn't matter what you think or believe, other people don't have the same perspective on life that you do. In fact, the person who sits next to you in your church may not have the same perception of god that you do. Religion is a personal thing, therefore, it annoys many people when a person pushes their beliefs on them.
Just about everyone has faith, it's just not for the same things. Some people have faith in George W. Bush, and they have faith in their god. In this case, it seems that the second is necessary if one is to adhere to the first. Some people have faith in GW Bush because he says that his god directs his actions. How do Bush's faithful know that he believes in the same god that they do? This is faith. Faith does not come as a logical conclusion. One has faith in something when there is no logical basis for it. One just believes. Fear might be another reason for faith: the fear of repercussion for not being seen as a believer. This does not seem to be a good basis for faith, athough it does seem to imply belief. To each their own.

Sweetie, please do not generalize about atheists....some of us DO have faith. We just take faith in other things rather than religious prophets or deities.
I appreciate what Jesus did......however, as I stated repeatedly elsewhere, I cannot believe in a deity without being dishonest with myself. If I tried to have faith in Jesus as a deity, then I would be blatantly lying to myself, him, and the world.
Serious question for you, honeybuns.....Would Jesus want me to lie to him, myself and the world just to say I am a christian? Or would he rather I be an atheist, be honest with him, myself and the world?
Plus, I am spiritual, sweetie. I like some of Jesus' teachings. However, I don't call myself a christian as I do not accept Jesus as a deity or a "savior". I am already being the best human being I can be. Personally, I think that is what Jesus would have wanted.

There's no evidence of a God's existence. Why should I be moved to accept the Christian faith, when it appears to me that this world is natural in fuction.
Put it this way: If I told you about an Atheist who saved the world in the past by sacrificing himself to make the leaders involved in the Spanish Inquisition see the error of thier ways, would you immediately believe it to be true? It's a very nice thing for him to do for the many people persectued at that time, but that fact alone doesn't make it true.
Now imagine I told you he did it so that people could recognize the fictional nature of Christianity. Would his sacrifice make Christianity false? Not really...
This is the problem with your claim above.

Jesus didn't even know me! How could he have died for me??
Faith that there is a god isn't hard for me, I think its ignorant. So, I don't even try it anymore. I have faith in myself to make the right decisions. I take responsibility for my mistakes rather than blame some invisible higher power. "Well, it must be part of God's plan!".
Why is it so hard for you to see the alternative?

The belief that Christ died for our sins is predicated on being Christian. No belief in Christ = no belief his dying for our sins.
Maybe people fail to believe because the 'word' is used to justify hatred and mistreatment of others. Maybe people have difficulty in adhering to a gospel of hatred used to justify the killing of others (Islam and Christianity). Maybe people choose to be atheists because the bible is contradictory. Maybe people choose to be non christian because the traditional 'all or nothing' mindset is dangerous and unreasonable.
Also, there seems to be an inexplicable refusal to accept science amongst Christians. From the estimated age of the earth to evolution, to other aspects of basic biology, Christians tend to find science somehow... threatening. Remember that whole geocentric view of the solar system.... How's that working out?
In truth I am neither Christian, Muslim, nor atheist. My apostasy occurred because I read the Bible from cover to cover. Faith is easy for me, just not in Christ. I read the Koran and found it wanting for many of the same reasons.

Because blind faith is for suckers. Can we just tell you anything and you'd believe it? The earth was flat to most people because of faith. Thinking requires a lot more power than faith!

Welcome to the legions of the oxymoronic. Atheists do not believe in the existence of G*D, but you want to know why they do not believe that He who you called the Son of G*D died for them. You Christians are a curious lot, you believe a third-hand, poor translation and called it Holy Scriptures, but you can not accept a simple dictionary. Is it any wonder that so many of your minsters are call pastors when so many of you are so like sheep.

I'm not an atheist, but why do you care what others believe? Just because you believe something doesn't mean that it's the right thing. Maybe it's not. People believe what they want to and that's ok.
