Is eating with your mouth open just bad etiquette or is it caused by something else? For example, nasal problems? Maybe people need to breathe while they chew so they dont close their mouths.

Yes, you're right on both counts.

I have met people who have sinus or nasal problems who say that they can't eat with their mouth closed or they would have problems, gas and burping being among them.

However, many many many more people just have bad manners. They probably don't realize how porcine they look and sound when eating with their mouths open.

I guess some might say that it's the "cool, in" way to do it now. If it's cool to look like a moron, then go ahead. Just don't eat at my table!

It doesn't bother me, honestly, if it's just me and my fiance' eating pizza on a Saturday night. But dining out...well, it's embarassing, and sadly, most people don't realize they're doing it. I don't think it's so horrid that it could be said you are "dealing with it" as though it's putting you through hard times...but just tell him flat out, "You may not realize, but you chew with your mouth open and make excess noise when you eat. It's embarassing, and it's bad manners. You should try to pay attention to how you are chewing your food."

It s called a tissue. Your nose wouldn t be so stuffed up if you would stop snorting up your boogers. It s gross like living in a barn with a pig. If your so cheap that you won t buy a tissue just wet your hands blow and wash up then dry with your sleave. A tissue acts like a muffler with practise you can be silent. Nasal problems are the first sign of an obnoxious self centered jerk or some kind of moron. One obnoxious habbit leads to another. I can t help it its my nose I ll fart. Passing the blame cant even admit their faults. Deviated septum or no deviated septum stop eating your mucus .

hey I lived part of my life with my adenoids blocking my nasal passages and could never breath out of my nose, even after having them removed I still have issues breathing from my nose because I feel like I will suffocate if I don't breath from my mouth. there are times I open my mouth when eating, but don't realize I'm doing it because we don't tell our bodies when to breath we just do. for people who have sinus and allergy problems a tissue doesn't always help clear your nose out.
