I have 2 individuals who need assistance. I can only give money to 1 individual. One individual is an American citizen and one is an illegal alien. I can only give money to ONE person, so which should I give it to? (NO CHANGING THE QUESTION OR ADDING TO IT!!!) Give me a straight and simple answer without editorializing.

your money, give it to whoever you want.
or, split it & give to both. keep it & teach them to get their own (the old saying; give a man a fish & he'll eat for a day. teach a man to fish & he'll eat for a lifetime).

I would give it to the most deserving whether it be an illegal or an american.

Secondly, what is a pro-illegal? I'm not pro-illegal. I don't think anyone should be in this country illegally. I am realistic. I think that those people that are here illegally should be given the chance to become citizens. I don't think they should get amnesty. I think they should have to pay steep fines and back taxes. Those that REALLY want to be here will do what is necessary to achieve legality. Those that aren't willing to do that should go home. That doesn't make me pro-illegal. I personally understand their plight and their will to survive. I would go to another country too if it meant taking care of my family and surviving. I think they are vital to the united states economy and that they are saving this country more money than they are taking from us. If we employed americans in the positions in which we employ illegals it would mean paying them more and that will only add to the already accumulating debt we have. If they are willing to work for less let them! It just isn't realistic to deport 12 million people. It will NEVER happen. Why not start enforcing strict strict strict border security and start a process for citizenship for the decent ones that are willing to do everything it takes to be a citizen.

The American.

Neither. I work hard and making a decent living. I never completed college and I'm doing alright. I would shovel sh*t if I had to, to make ends meet and put food on the table. I would never resort to selling drugs or stealing to make a buck. If people are hungry or down on their luck it's usually their fault. Illegals claim that they are hungry because of the corruption in their home countries. Well the solution is not America, the solution starts in their home countries by changing their standard way of thinking in that country to make it better for themselves.
If it were an American that was down and out, that person needs to lower their own standards and shovel sh*t if they have to or what ever for money. I can't feel sorry for these people who are on welfare and will not take a job at McDonald's because they might take away their welfare or they don't want to be seen working there. Tough sh*t, get a job.
Sorry, just venting.

That is silly- would you really base your giving on the persons origin? Or would you take into consideration the circumstances leading to the person needing assistance?

For instance, years after leaving your home town, you run into a guy from your high school who was a complete jerk in HS. He is down on his luck after blowing all of his money at a casino, or on whores or drugs or whatever. Do you give him money just because you are from the same hometown? I wouldn't. He had the same opportunity I had and he blew it (and was a complete jerk).
The next day, you run into someone who has come from a town with no indoor plumbing, lousy schools, little medical care and limited opportunities. They have come here to try to make a better life for themselves and their children and are willing to bust *** to do it. Do you give them a hand? Perhaps.

Sorry- I know I am editorializing, but I think it isn't as straightforward of a question/problem as you intone.

I have 2 individuals who need assistance. . . . . .Key phrase and center of the question. Without any more background, I would have to assume both parties have exhausted all other avenues of help.

Even the Christians have to agree, their own Bible contains a parable about searching for that one lost sheep from the flock. Notice it did not say the sheep from his neighbors flock. I know I am being legalistic here, but this IS a legal issue. We need to help our family first. Then when all is well with our family, we can help another family. I have to be able to take care of myself be healthy, strong and mentally square with myself before I can take care of and assist another. Law of survival.

America has plenty of her own that need assistance that no longer receive it. Our government gives other nations Billions of dollars in assistance, while short changing our own. On top of that some of the nations we give assistance to, spit in our faces. We shorten our unemployment roles so we don't have to take care of our own. (It's down to 18 weeks from 26 weeks and once you use 18 weeks, you can't appliy again, even though you got a job from the last time. Once you use it, it's gone. When that is the case, why should we take care of others? With a few very rare exceptions, most other nations certainly don't care for our indigent population. Our own companies send funds out of the country by outsourcing to other nations. How many nations outsource to us? (Only long enough to steal technology)

I apologize for what to appears to be editorializing. It was my way of rationalizing my answer.

In the end, I would say give the assistance to our own.

I would keep my money and direct the U.S. Citizen to the Department of Human Services to get Assistance. I would ask the Illegal alien to please wait there, go to the phone and tell the Police there is a suspicious person loitering around. He would get detained, housed temporarily, fed and watered and deported. Everyones taken care of, use my hard earned money and by a lottery ticket.

I am not pro-illegal, but I'd give it to the American citizen.

Give it to the illegal. The citizen had every chance to succeed in life, and he just threw it away.

The one who does their job better! If neither work for you, then give it to the person you find most needs it!
