But satisfaction brought him back!

It's a metaphorical statement (no cat really died for someone to make a saying out of) but it basically means that if you get too curious about something (like a cat, which is a naturally curious animal, being curious about heavy machinery or something), you can end up getting hurt (feelings or physically).

And the second part, about the satisfaction brought him back, is sometimes added to insinuate that even if you do get hurt somehow, it will still be ok in the end.

My guess is that a cat did actually die in the making of the phrase. The cat probably was curious about something in the road or near or on machinery and got killed because of it.

No cats were harmed in the making of that phrase...

It is simply meant to explain to humans the dangers of being too curious. A cat was used because cats are a notoriously curious species and are always investigating their surroundings.

My cat was curious and got out onto balcony and fell five stories from apartment.Just like she hit tree on way down. Not trying to be sick or comical but she survived al right .she was shaking for a while though and hasn't fallen again.Plus i put up screening to block off the rail she had tried walking on!

Cats are genarally curious. This is not saying that the cat itself died. It's a way of helping humans understand that being curious is not a good thing.

I'm not sure why but Curiosity may have killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back!

I think it is just one of those stories told to scare little children into behaving...otherwise their may have been no cats involved...
