Cats are curious that way.

Kitty doesn't necessarily want to go outside. She/he just wants to look out the open door, and especially smell the scents on the air. A cat's sense of smell is nine times better than ours! That means that anything you smell will smell nine times more that way to Kitty. Not that what we think smells good and bad is the same for a cat. There is a plant called valerian that smells awful to us, and cats love it.
As to looking out the window, all cats love to sit up on something next to a window and watch the world go by. Partly it can be territorial- keep that other stupid cat OFF my porch! - but for the most part they simply are enjoying life by watching the activities outside.
None of this means you should let the cat out!!!! Some people believe a cat should go out just because they seem to want to. But a cat who lives indoors will live longer and be a lot more healthy than an outdoor one. Outdoors, cats can pick up fleas, worms, get hit by cars, and even eaten by owls. YES a large owl will eat a cat. Worse, they can contract diseases like feline AIDS from other cats.
So keep kitty in and let kitty look out the window and sniff at the door when it's open. She'll live a longer, happier life.

ps The notion that a cat's "natural state is to be free" leads people to let their cat out and expose it to all of the above dangers. My cat has lived strictly indoors and is now in her 12th year and is as healthy as can be.

Because the cat is curious! If you're worried about the cat running away, you can buy a cat harness and leash.. That way you can take the cat outside, let her explore, and bring her back in. Watch out though, it does take some time for most cats to get used to a harness.. At first they don't seem to like it much.

Because an animal--including humans'--natural state is to be free. All cats long to go outside and explore freedom. The same thing happens with my cats. Maybe you should consider letting it out in a controlled area (like if you live in a house) because a little fresh air is good for even domestic animals.

do exactly not let it out. 4 months is at the same time as kittens can attain sexual adulthood so in the beginning, he ought to finally end up impregnating woman cats. and evidently there is the potential for getting hit by ability of a cat, killed by ability of a loose canines, eaten by ability of a coyote, etc. Why do your mothers and fathers no longer prefer to get it its images? So it really is rarely considered a vet? Pets are a duty no longer a suitable. So replaced into only a kitten YOU presented domicile with out permission or did they get it yet merely no longer difficulty to get it what it needs? both way - in the adventure that they are that undesirable or that irreponsible that they gained't get it its images or altered then provide it as a lot as a no-kill seem after so it may get the care it needs. it really isn't any longer "no longer conceivable" to save a cat interior. you've been LETTING it outside. This kitten actually isn't turning the door knob by ability of itself so end with the lame a$$ excuses!

My kitten also does this. They like to look outside because that's what all cats like to do I guess. They're curious about everything. They also like to look at bugs fly around outside and sometimes they may even "chase" them inside.
I guess they don't run outside when the door is open because they feel safe inside or are too lazy or maybe they're scared. My kitten doesn't run when a door is open, sometimes he runs away I think...strange.

Has your furry friend been desexed? If not, it might just be the territory thing.
Another reason is your cat is simply curious and wants to explore beyond the normal boring home routine.
If it goes out, but stays within the confines of your block, and comes home after an hour or so, it's fine to allow it to explore the outside, but remember to put in a microchip under its skin (completely painless) so you'll be able to find it should it gets lost.
You need to remember that cats are naturally inquisitive creatures. My cat looks out of the open door all the time, and asks to be let out every single morning. He only explores the block, and knows to hide from strangers till they pass by (I've followed him quiety on occasions just to see what he's up to, and to see if he knows how to watch out for himself), and comes home after an hour or so, so I'm not worried.
It can also mean that your cat isn't getting enough stimulation or exercise at home, making it restless to go out. So try setting aside 1/2 hour or so twice a day just to play with it. One, you'll be preventing your friend from becoming obesed, as many home-cats tend to be. Two, you're providing enough exercise and stimulation at home, so it won't feel as much need to go outside.....thus keeping it from potential harm.
Also, as cats do tend to get tired of routine, you can get some play toys for your cat, but only offer one or two at any one time.
Good luck!

consider where it was born. if you adpopted it from a farm it will want to go outside because it was born outside. if it wasnt well maybe it sees other animals outside like another cat or two and wants to know how it feels being outside. its probaly just curious. you should let it outside once in a while. not too much if you want to keep it your"inside"cat you better let it out once or twice a day.

Mine does the same thing. I have a Persian and she recently has been wanting to go outside. I have a little harness and leash for her and was told it would look ridiculous to take her to the park or for a walk. So I am forced to make her stay inside. Poor thing. But I've recently started letting her hang out on my balcony. I'm just training her to not jump several stories down. Ouch!

because its an inside cat and s/he is really curious what is outside. my outside cats are always looking what is inside and try to get inside sometimes but they never get in all the way. they just walk part way in then walk out.
