God sent some of his angels, called watchers, to keep an eye on humanity. Some of these watchers lusted after human women, these are the fallen ones, who married the women and the children of this union were called nephilim. The watchers also taught weapon making, jewelry making, and other things they weren't suppose to do. They were suppose to watch and protect us, not teach, especially the things they were teaching. Of course, not all of the watchers fell, but it only took a few to create havoc. I've heard Noah's flood was to rid the world of nephilim.

They were the aliens that came to earth and were worshiped as gods.
The leader of the aliens (lord of the gods-Jehovah), grew angry about this because the humans were created as a slave race and he didn't want them mixing with the aliens species. this is why he sent the flood. Notice the bible says they were on the earth before and after the flood.
I'd like to add that I'm not joking. I saw a show on the discovery Chanel last weekend that was telling of an animal called a Liger. It is a cross between a tiger and a lion. These animals are of different species but are capable of mating. They said that the female lion carries the gene that tells the offspring how big to get, and in a tiger it is the male that carries it. so when they mated a male lion with a female tiger the offspring grew very big much much bigger than a normal lion or tiger.
I really thought that was interesting and now I can see how the sons of gods could have mated with the daughters of men and had offspring that were giants.

Nephilim is a connection with an old mythological legend of demigods a number of the Canaanites which the author of Genesis borrowed and included in that side of Genesis with the intention to insert an reason for the prehistoric giants of Canaan, whom the Israelites referred to as Nephilim and grew to be afraid to combat them if they'd to vanquish Canaan. Another intent for incorporating that mythological fragment at that exact side of Genesis was once additionally with the rationale to justify the punishment for the wickedness of the pre-flood global.

A straight-forward reading of Genesis 6 causes problems because it refers to something we've never seen. But if we examine the Epistle of Jude, we will find an equally uncomfortable passage referring to the angels who did not keep their own domain but, like the people who indulged in gross immorality in Sodom and Gomorrah, they went after "strange flesh"(vs 7). Sons of God (bene Elohim) is the same word translated angels elsewhere in the Old Testament.
Ever wondered where all the strange mythological creatures came from? Or why the word "titan" arouses feelings of pride? What happened with their spirits when these half-mortals perished in the flood? Are they the demons?

This is such a great question, one that has caused mystery for centuries, but is clearly answered by the Bible itself.
The verse to which you are referring is...
(Genesis 6:4 KJV) There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
The word "giants" is the word nephilim.
But notice that the "sons of God" came in unto the "daughters of men."
This is the part that people have so wrongly interpreted throughout the years, and the Bible makes it clear what is meant here.
The traditional interpretation is that the sons of God mean angels and the daughters of men mean mortal human beings.
So who are sons of God? Aren't all Christians called the children of God? But that's in the New Testament, Lawrence, you can't use the New Testatment to answer this question.
Okay, how about Israel, weren't they called the children of God?
But, Lawrence, this happens before the flood! There was no such thing as the children of Israel.
Okay. So let's look at the Bible verse that clears this up...and it is found BEFORE Genesis 6:4!
Genesis 4:26:
(Genesis 4:26 KJV) And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD.
So, how does that help?
The last phrase, "then began men..." has a marginal translation, in the KJV, of "Then began men to be called by the name of the Lord," or to call themselves by it.
Now that Cain and those that had deserted religion had built a city, and begun to declare for impiety and irreligion, and called themselves the sons of men, those that adhered to God began to declare for him and his worship, and called themselves the sons of God. Now began the distinction between professors and profane, which has been kept up ever since, and will be while the world stands.
In other words, the believers of God began to be called by the name of the Lord--sons of God. And the nonbelievers of God were called the sons of men!
So, going back to Genesis 6, we have the believers of God finding the daughters of the nonbelievers attractive, and being induced to marry and have children. The children that they bore were called Nephilim.
And this is *totally* from the Bible! Simple when you let the Bible interpret itself!

I heard my dad talking about this.... I have a really hard time believing angels were having sex with people to create these "nephilim". How could a spirit have sex with a body????? They could not "divinely" create nephilim because they were not gods. He said the "sons of man" were having sex with the "daughters of God" or something like that... wouldn't that just mean "of man" not righteous and "of God" righteous?

They were supposed to halflings. A cross between angels and humans. It is how the ancient Hebrews incorporated the other gods and heroes from other religions into the religion to make it more believable for early Jews.

Whatever people say- angels did not have sex with people. The theory I heard is demons were inhabiting the offspring bodies which were giants or something. Crazy stuff. Only a fool would believe it.

Some believe they were half human half angel. Some believe they were strong devout believers of God. Based on the context - I vote for believers. Its a tough call.
