What is the artistic community?

I was talking to a guy online who attends alot of parties and functions involving the artistic community. What kind of people make up the artistic community?

They can be very nice. Usually people who like to listen to music, look at art, go to plays and concerts and dance performances and museum and art gallery shows; maybe some real artists too, and real musicians or actors or dancers. (This probably does not include country music or square dance, sorry.) They can be bright, opinionated people. Some might be wealthy, a lot of artists aren't, though. Could be fun!
