Continuous 02 therapy is beneficial for people with chronic breathing problems:
Because of the physiology of their illness, they cannot maintain as high of an 02 level as people without lung disease. These people also usually have a higher than normal C02 level as well.
Continuous 02 is helpful because it decreases the work of breathing, takes some of the strain off their hearts, and decreases fatigue.

It means receiving oxygen on an ongoing basis, not just a few times a day or a week. It is beneficial to people with chronic breathing problems because they need more oxygen in their lungs to breathe. Here is a website you can visit to learn a little more about it.

This would mean a device to carry around with you and at home to increase the Oxygen perhaps thru nasal prongs, so the lungs can be more efficient when their function is reduced. However it can be dangerous for some if the Carbon dioxide levels aren't watched also, as the person can stop breathing especially if they have been functioning on low oxygen for a long time. So Oxygen is good for those with reduced lung functioning thru scarring in the lungs etc. but each case has to be evaluated through blood levels of Oxygen in the Arteries, and other levels.

Some chronic lung problems lower your capacity to supply oxygen to the tissues of your body. By giving supplemental oxygen you make up for the deficit.
