It depends. Most cats have a "winter" coat and a "summer" coat, even the indoor cats. My male cat's hair is getting a reddish tint to the black fur. His underbelly is turning grey where it blends in with the white and black. He is in the midst of changing with the seasons -- this old hair looks thicker, as the thinner hair is growing in. He looks funny right now, but he is healthy. Are there other things going on with him? Weight gain or loss, appetite gain or loss, chronic thirst, mewling with pooping or urinating? You know your cat's personality best. When in doubt, call the vet.

Is it a siamese or himilayan? they tend to get darker with age & will be a darker shade with each shedding season. Many of the color pointed cats do this. Black cats can sunburn their coats & turn a reddish hue on top so it depends on what color you started with.
