When I open a directory via Start | Run, it opens Windows Explorer in the single column view. Is there maybe a registry edit or TweakUI setting to have it always open in the two column folder view?

In Explorer, go to the "Tools" menu and click on "Folder Options"

In the new window, click on the "View" Tab

At the top there is a "Reset All Folders" button.
At the bottom there is a "Restore Defaults" button.

Click both of those buttons and everything should return to normal.

Assuming you are running Windows XP...
Open Windows Explorer
Change the icons to the view you want
Click on Tools in the menu, then Folder Options
Go to the View tab
Click Apply to all folders
Now all folders will open with the view you were using at the time you clicked the button

Open your folder and get it searching like the way you elect it (information). then bypass to strategies>folder thoughts. bypass to the View tab and choose prepare to All Folders (this makes all folders you open seem as in case you elect it (information)). Then click ok and close the folder. Reopen it to make effective it seems proper then once you drill down it really is going to open with the default view being information
