Every Isreali I have EVER met has been nothing but genuine and giving. It makes me ill that they have such a hard time in their part of the world. I hope to visit sometime in my life, when things are more stable. Not that it ever really has been unfortuntately!

What do you want to know? It's a small country, in terms of square kilometers, but has large differences in weather. The population is equally varied in terms of both culture (people from all over Europe, North and South America, Armenia, India, Africa, and Australia) and religion (Jews, more Christian denominations that you may have ever heard of, Moslems, Bahai, and others).
There are religious and historical sites, museums, zoos, water parks, skiing, Beduin villages, and many other attractions. It is modern and ancient all at once.
Despite what you may have heard, the streets are safe. In fact, you are less likely to die a violent death on the Israeli streets than in most parts of the United States (and not *only* US cities).
Traffic is horrendous, and Israelis are rude by American standards, but they are more caring than the average American. You will *never* see a child crying alone on the streets; if a child is lost, *everyone* will stop to help. Israelis will also stop to give you directions if *you* get lost, even if they have no idea where you are going and show you a "better" place instead. They will almost never admit not knowing the answer, so you can end up where they think you should go instead of where you're meeting someone!! Most Israelis speak at least some English and are usually happy to practice it.
The weather is hot during the summer, especially in Eilat and the Negev desert and along the Mediterranean coast. Nights are cold in Jerusalem. Yes, *cold*. You may need a sweater. There is *no* rain in the summer; if it even drizzles, it is major news. Winter is cold in Jerusalem and some other inland locations, but warm in the hotter parts of the country (see beginning of the paragraph).

I spent 11 months in Israel, and these were probably the best 11 months in my life. Israel is a fantastic country, unlike anywhere else in the world. To say it is beautiful is to say nothing. Among other things, you feel closer to Heaven and to history than anywhere.

Israel gets a bad rap. It, Lebanon and Jordan, are the only civilized countries in the mid east

Ive been there twice and loved every second of it. The people are great, the food is great. There is something to do for everyone, whether you go there for religious purposes or just to have fun.
