She told me he's usually really nice to her. But whenever they're with his friends he starts to act like a jerk and treats her like he doesn't care.

Stupid PEER PRESSURE, don't blame that on all males, it may only be that particular group of male children.

Bottom line, b/c he can. If she continues to allow the abusive nature of his tactics to continue, then there you go. All you can do as a friend is be there for her. Some women stay with a man, any man, b/c it gives them a sense of validation, they can say, I have a man, so what if he treats me like. I have a friend right now that is the same kind of situation, but she loves her man and Lord knows she does not need a man to validate her.

Furthermore, if he truly only does it in front of his friends then it is just to show that he is the Alpha male, he is the man of the house, so to speak.

that's because he wanna show off that he's a man, but really truely he is not, he's not half of the man he think he is... he is just a total jerk... i have the same proble with my bf... i told him straight up that i don't want he to act this way, or i will ignor him... she need to be strong, and make a decision... first she need to stop be nice to him, when they are not with his friend, she just need to speak to him for a while, to let him know that there is something wrong. and all she need is to look at him when he is talking or doing something... if he treat her bad again front of his friend, what she needs to do, is to be cooooolllll very very cool, and just look at him mean while he act the movie, then when he's finished. all she needs to do is to tell him front of his friend like this...
you finished? k, well now i guess is time for me to move on, if he think by treating her like a crap makes he a man, then tell him, she don't need a man like that. then turn and go home or could go somewhere else that he can't find her, if he really loves her, he will go find her no matter what....

and if he do it again, just dump him in the garbage bin, we don't need people like that in our lives, and we don't need any man either. what we all need is a good heart, good soul, and honesty.

When I was in high school I had a boyfriend who did the same thing, so I just did it back, and he hated it and I told him "see thats how it feels and you do it to me all the time" and after that (probably wanting to prove that he wasn't doing it) he stopped and things got alot better and easier for me....i think they call it reverse psychology!! :) and it worked for me. Turned out he really loved me, until I graduated and he had another year to go and he found another honey to walk the halls with and I hear he used to treat her like crap in front of his friends....ya think?? You need to put your foot down and if he really cares for you he will stop. Just don't graduate!! :) j/k

Most guys put on a front in front of their friends because they don't want to be teased about being whipped. Men always want to prove how matcho they are, especially to other men. That's why he acts like a jerk in front of his friends but is sweet in private. Tell her to talk to him and explain that she understands where he's coming from but he doesn't have to be so mean to her when his friends are around. If he does stop, she needs to hand him his walking papers!

this guy is obviously just trying to act cool in front of his friends by showing that hez in control of this relationship ur friend is just another trophy in his closet. if she rlly likes this guy she either needs to set him straight or find a guy who treats her with respect all the time no matter what the situation is.

It sounds like he's trying to show off for his friends, but that's no excuse for what he's doing. Sooner or later he needs to learn to do the right thing and treat her right all the time. She should tell him that, and if he can't learn on his own, she should drop him like a bad habit. (Might help him learn.)

that's really sad that he has to put up a front with his friends. He's not comfortable showing his feelings for her in front of his friends becase hes' afraid of how they might react. She needs to tell him what hes' doing is wrong and how that makes her feel.

That's just an indication of the seriousness of the relationship. His friends come first.
