i had kittens that were given to me, was told they were 9 weeks old, they were not well so i took them to the vet, they were only 4 weeks old, they couldnt do anything for themselves, their mother didnt have time to show them, so there was me trying to teach 2 kittens how to use a cat litter tray, not a pretty sight. Anyway....the vet said they should not have left the mother at less than 8 weeks, its the very best time for them to be parted.

About 7 to 8 weeks.

I have rescued kittens and found that people are so fed up of them they will try and rehome them at about 4 weeks old. At the very earliest 6 weeks is when they should be rehomed but at 6 weeks they aren't really ready for the best start in life they should not be rehomed until 8-10 weeks.

A minimum of 8 weeks, but longer if possible as the mother will make them independent, be able to teach them how to survive, and they will have had a first boost of important vaccinations. Most pedigree cats are not rehomed until 12 weeks.

Definitely around 8 weeks but absolutely no longer than 12. Mothers can turn against their kittens and become extremely aggressive towards them (that's weird cat nature for you!)

At least 8 weeks and up to 12 for the larger/pure breeds as their immune systems aren't as strong as moggies. that's not to say they won't be eating and sleeping independently before then though - It's just that the breeders like to give them every chance as the mortality rates of kittens are really high
