Come on, it cant just hit a wall way out there. It must go on for infinity, never ending, weird. And the thought that God rules all of it... seems a bit ludicrous.

Does it ever begin? Maybe it's like a ring, no beginning or ending. Scientifically, this makes sense. Newton's law, (I forget which one), talks about how there is a finite amount of particles in the universe. Nothing is ever created or destroyed, only reshaped. But,.... if there is a finite amount of particles, then there has to be a point where there are no more particles. This would indicate an ending, so there must be a beginning. If there IS a beginning and end to space, then there has to be a beginning and end for time. So, the question should be, where and when did space and time begin? And how? ............... oh man, I think I just freaked myself out. This is why I smoke weed.

Heh... kind of a dangerous discussion topic. The nature of space kind of depends on your view of things, because theories run the gamut. Some physicists theorize that the fabric of space folds back upon itself so that it intersects itself in any number of places, or simply curves back upon itself in a sort of four-dimensional sphere. You, being within that universe, wouldn't notice any folds or curves it unless you could travel very fast in one direction and happen upon one of these points of intersection, and discover yourself heading back home from another direction, or find yourself heading to a region of space that should normally have taken you twice as long, but from a completely different direction (kind of like a 14th Century explorer accidentally circumnavigating the globe somehow, thinking he'd discovered a new land only to find himself in Japan.

Another theory is that space does indeed go on forever, in a simple infinite sphere. Not much really to say about that, except that there is also another theory which basically states that an empty space can only be quantified by mass or energy at its ends -- space, in other words, is the absence of matter or energy, so it just logically exist BETWEEN something tangible. Therefore, space can only exist where there is something to define it. If you subscribe to the Big Bang Theory, space can therefore only exist within the expanding sphere of matter and energy thrown outward during that initial gajillionth of a second following the Big Bang, and is actually finite (though for our purposes, it's as good as infitine... when's the last time you met anybody who had travelled a trillion light years?)

As for whether or not God or some higher force is involved, I'll leave that discussion for the theologians -- generally bad practice to mix theoretical physics with religion -- but in the spirit of the question, I'll leave you with this thought -- God is supposedly omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient (says so right here in this book), so why wouldn't it be within his grasp to hold dominion over all creation, even if it is infinite? If you begin with the supposition that there is a god and he has such and such properties, it goes without saying that it would be within his power to reign over all, because you've already defined him/her/it as having the capability.

Infinity cannot be adequately comprehended by man. Man is finite and God is infinite. Therefore, if you follow the commandments, you will be drawing closer to what you can never really understand which is God and He is a marriage of Divine Love and Divine Wisdom.

Yes. That comes to my mind too. And i tell you, its mind boggling. Its hard to believe its endless. I think when we die, all these questions will get answered. just the way I think

But how is it endless? isnt there something that ends it? What do you see on the otherside of the end of the universe? Damn sometimes its easier to stop thinking about it. Another thing that you may wonder is what was it like in the beggining of time. What was there before the beginning of time.

it doesn't end and the (non) fact that something blew up and formed the universe is more ludicrous that God ruling it.

Good question. I think on our plane of existence it doesn't. But, I also believe that God and the heavenly hosts occupy a separate plane of existence.

Space is space. Neverending. It's like space between a building or whatever. It's pretty confusing once you think about it =P
