At WIC they told us that drinking and breastfeeding isn't anything like drinking when your pregnant. They said the reason why they don't recommend drinking and then breastfeeding is cause you shouldn't be the one handling the baby after you have been drinking.
To be safe I would pump some extra take her to moms house and your milk should be fine the next day.
And remember they give u pain relievers at the hospital even if your breastfeeding. I had a c-section and had a morphine drip for goodness sakes.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, excessive or regular drinking is discouraged during breastfeeding. Mild to moderate drinking is OK. Alcohol is rapidly absorbed into milk, but it is not considered harmful to the infant so long as the amount is limited

You can have an occasional glass of wine or cocktail while nursing. But you can't go overboard and timing matters.
Alcohol passed in your breastmilk is much lower than the alcohol level that would be in your blood stream. A baby will not become intoxicated if you have a small quantity of alcohol. It's actually much safer to have that glass of wine while nursing than while pregnant because while pregnant your blood alcohol level is the baby's. While many people do recommend abstaining from all alcohol consumption during pregnancy, most doctors will say a glass a week of wine or beer is fine. And this is the same advice that you can follow while nursing. It's all about being reasonable.
If your baby has a regular sleep pattern, you can time your beverage for right after your baby goes to sleep. By the time your baby is ready for another feeding several hours later it's entirely likely that there will be little or no alcohol left in your system.
But most of all be smart. For goodness' sake, don't get drunk if you are nursing. The reason why most people recommend not drinking at all is because many people can't seem to moderate their behavior. Having a glass of wine or beer on occasion is not permission to get wasted. If you aren't sure what to do, then don't drink at all. But if an occasional glass of wine or celebratory glass of champagne makes you happy, then have it.
And there is always pump and dump if you have a glass too much. Just make sure you have breastmilk to spare that you've pumped earlier or be sure your baby will take formula in a bottle as a back up.

If you are breastfeeding and want to have a drink, the thing to do is to have the drink after you have breastfed the baby and he/she is settled down and asleep. Then, have the drink and for the next feeding, use a bottle.
I know some of us breastfeeding moms are militant about not using bottles. But this is probably the only exception to that rule.

You really shouldn't be breastfeeding if you want to drink - but if you absolutley have to have alcohol - plan ahead. The day before you are going to have a drink or two, pump and store enough of your milk for your baby to have for up to 48 hours (depending on your alcohol consumption)
DO NOT drink hard alcohol - if you must drink, have a glass of wine or a beer.
You have to decide for yourself which is more important - your social life or your child. There are alternatives, you can look like you are drinking but aren't - such as non-alcoholic beer or sparkling cider....

Your baby doesn't want a drink. There is a trial going on here about a woman who killed her baby letting it breast feed while she was doing Meth. You have to suppress your urges for the good of your child. By having a child you committed to being the nurturer of a human being. Your life has changed forever. Just realize that you have been given an important gift and go with it.

So get a drink and enjoy it with every sip.....as long as it is nothing stronger than water or juice. Alcohol is not good for anyone and certainly not a baby.
