There's a website that says you don't have to trim your ends because hair will rid itself of damaged ends on its own. Yet as long as I've been alive, every woman I know swears to regular trims. What do you think & why?

Even though the root of the hair is alive the rest of the shaft is not. The hair does not rid itself of bad ends. If it splits off or breaks off, it makes the ends of your hair look and feel rough. Every 6-8 weeks trim the ends. If you have a shaped hair cut, you will need a cut anyway. If it is just straight or one length, just have someone go around the edges and take off a tiny bit and even it out. It keeps it looking full with a finished look. Each hair grows at a different speed so you end up with wispy ends. Who wants scraggly looking hair? Funny thing too, there isn't any proof, but hair that is trimmed often grows faster.

The ends of your hair are naturally rhe driest for 2 reasons. The first is the ends are the oldest hair on your head. The second is the natural oils from your scalp do not reach the ends as well as they do the hair closest to the scalp. Without regular trims split ends will continue to split further and further us the hair shaft. How many times have you seen a woman with very long hair that looked dry and ugly at the ends? This is why. Regular trims stop the splitting process before it has time to make its ugly move. A trim every 6 weeks is good for your hair so go for it.

That is totally untrue. Look at someone's hair who has not had a trim for a long time. None of their hair is the same length and it looks all raggedy. If that is not an advertisement for frequent trims I don't know what is.

It's healthy to trim every 4-6 weeks.

If you don't trim your hair, the split ends keep splitting up the hair shaft. If you want to keep your hair healthy, you have to trim it occasionally.
