I knew a boy who was diagnosed with autism. He was two at the time of his diagnosis, and I knew him from birth. Signs that something was wrong were he would not interact with other people unless forced, (and then it was just tantrums or pinching.) He would watch TV, but things that are normal on kids shows, (such as seeing other children playing,) would make him scream and cry and freak out. He had no verbal skills. The only way he would communicate was by screaming and throwing tantrums if he was taken from an activity. He was also a big boy and would throw his body around and pinch people.
At first they thought he had a hearing problem and he had tubes put in his ears, but after that did not work he was evaluated for autism. He was placed into treatment, attends a special school, and has a communications specialist teaching him focus and sign language. The last time I saw him he was able to speak and sign about 3-4 words and doing better everyday, he was almost 4 years old by then.
If you are worried about autism then you should take your child to the doctor and discuss your concerns.

there are some definet signs of autism such as:
delayed social interaction and skills
impairment in communication
repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities
delays in language development
lack of adaptive behaviors
fixation on objects
dealys in speech and language development
no empathy
no perspective taking
very little eye contact
inappropriate responses
difficulty understanding facial expressions of others
possible dealy in cognitive development
insistance on sameness
difficulty transitioning
unable to handle frustration
While this may sound like some of these apply to all children, it is the combination of many of these warning signs that could signal a problem - contact your doctor for more information or to have your child checked out
Also, check out the Center for the Study of Autusim at http://www.autism.org or the Council for Exceptional Children at http://www.cec.sped.org
I hope some of this helps!

I grew suspicious when my son was not responding when we called him(16 months). My son avoided eye contact and seemed to be in a world all his own. Also I noticed he was not pointing or using baby "babble" as my other children did at this point. It is now a year later and with treatment he is a "brand new" child. Good Luck!!! and if your child is diagnosed(hope not),its not the end of the world. Help is out there and with treatment ur baby can live as close to a normal life as possible.

Lack of Eye contact should be your first red flag, delayed speech, anti social (not in a murderous way) behavior. There are also many forms of Autism though such as PDD.

i'm no expert, but my friend's kid brother has it and he is very introverted, he is super crazy into building patterns with blocks or anything he can make shapes and colors with, and he hardly ever looks at you in the eye and if so for like no time whatsoever and you have to direct his eyes to yours with you hands. Also, as you undoubtedly already know, he can't stand changes of scenery or additions to the household that he doesn't recognize. Stuff like that seems common as far as I have heard, but this is just one kid, I don't know a lot but i thought i would try and help anyway.

Is this because of the answers to your other question? Don't listen to them. Kids show their anger in different ways. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. If he was really autistic then he would also have a hard time with change. Autistic kids like things to stay the same and never change and when it does they can't handle it. I'm sure your son is fine. :) No need to worry!
