Try removing programs that you don't use. There may be something shutting down in the background that you don't know is running. Also get a good spy-ware removal software such as Spyware Doctor. There could be hundreds of little spy programs running without your knowledge. When Windows shuts down it must first shut down all of the programs that you have running.

It's been a while since I have had a computer with w98 on it, but I know there is a switch in the control panel somewhere that powers the PC off on shutdown. Sorry, I can't remember exactly where it is.

Iam afraid u will have to re-install your windows .... but u can choose a repairing option in the setup .. which means that windows will just repair itself but no data will be lost ........ and about pressing the switch off button for 10 second .. that is exactly like switching power off .. so your windows will have errors after time and u may lose data .... just repair your windows

there is a service that is not shutting down. This was very common with win9x machines. A very common cause of this was shutdown sound files. If you have a shut down down sound, turn it off in your sound schemes. Also, make sure all programs are closed first.
