in the freezer it should stay good for a long time (I know that some people toss stuff after only a couple of months but I keep stuff for years and have NEVER had a problem)
but if it is not in a good container that is properly sealed it can get freezer burnt and be dry and gross

It depends on how long it's been frozen. Since it's the kind that comes in a tub, if it has been opened before and it's over 2 months old, toss it. It's a perfect breeding ground for bacteria that will make you sick. Freezing only prevents bacteria from growing, it does not kill them. Cookie dough has butter and eggs in it-both which can spoil. Better to be safe than sorry.

What's a while? There should be a date stamp somewhere on the tub. Go by what it says.

After a year, you need to throw it away. Same goes for boxed baking mixes - check expiration. They can make you very sick.

No, it wouldn't be safe. It would be too dry and it won't bake right.
