Every time I watch my favorite game show and they have a “Celebrity for Charity” episode, I turn it off because it really offends me. The whole concept that a people who have lots of money have to go on a game show to win a dismal amount of money for a charity just blows me away. And then everybody pats them on the back. And of course their probably getting paid for their time to boot. I’m not saying that celebrities don’t donate enough money, because many of them do, but to do it on a game show with money that’s not theirs in the first place is just wrong.

No, I think it's a good thing. Sure they might get paid for it, sure they could donate the money themselves, but it also draws the attention of everyone else to make donations too. More people are likely to donate to X charity because X celebrity, who they like, did it. It also brings more awareness to some of the smaller charities that don't get much spotlight or notice.

To some extent, yes. But people find out about various charities for a certain cause this way, so they can contribute later if they feel like it.

I think the TV celebrities are on game shows because they feel they can't get enough face time on TV already, though. It's partially for popularity, partially for ratings, but the charities still benefit and that's great.

But why can't the celebrities themselves donate without making a big show out of it?

I agree, I think it's really silly. And it makes me mad when celebrities try and get me to donate money to other countries or things of that nature when they have enough money to buy an island and I can't afford my electric bill half the time ya know? I remember Drew Carey was on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and he donated all of his winnings to some library in Ohio...twice. I thought that was stupid.

Honestly, you do not have a right to NOT be offended. You have done the right thing by turning it off. If it is not your money they are winning for charity, don't lose any sleep over it.

that is actual a really sturdy question; some celebs do artwork with charities and do charity artwork. yet i imagine they ought to provide up being photographed outdoors of an evening club battling, and make a contribution with society and help the poor and the susceptible.

Never really thought about it. But I guess to make things fair they should, if they are wealthy, put in the same amount that they won for the charity. Not all celebrities are wealthy.

I would rather they did that then spew on about politics or like Tom Cruise telling people that post partum depression does not exist or require drugs. He has been moved to my idiot list. Maybe by people watching these fund raisers, it is raising people's awareness of the different causes out there.

yes, I am too.

It may not even be the celeb's fault...

the Network just wants more rattings during that time slot (as in that show needs more viewers) so they pull a stupid stunt like this.

I just wish the celeb's would see through this, or if they do it to get more attention those types are just as bad as the network ...

It's just insulting.

::: Peace :::
