Are we talking college-age bachelor or "grown-up" bachelor?
College-age list-
*Freebie couch
*T.V., pilfered from parents' home
*Milk crate "end tables" (I had some of those myself in my college years)
*Hibatchi Grill
*"Goodwill" dishes/glasses/pans/utensils or again, pilfered from parents
*Decent Stereo
*Twin Bed/Sheets
*Wet/Dry vac (You're gonna need it. Trust me.)
*Toilet Plunger
*Microwave
*Bath Towels (at least 3)
*Toothbrush
Grown-up List-
*Decent Couch
*Recliner
*Coffee table
*Dining Room Table & at least 2 chairs
*Double, Queen or King sized bed (minimum of "double")
*At least 2 sets of sheets
*Bar stuff (at least 2 wine glasses, wine opener, beer bottle opener, martini glasses if you're fancy)
*Decent set of NEW dishware, matching glasses, small set of pots & pans, utensils.
*Decent Stereo
*TV
*DVD player
*Bath & Kitchen towels/linens
*Toilet plunger AND brush
*Store-bought bookshelf (No cinderblock/particle board set-up)
*2 or 3 decorative items (at least) - a plant (not fake), pictures/paintings, a mantle clock, objects d'art, etc.
I think that's about it. Most anything else would be "frills". Since the budget is tight, I'd reccommend garage-saling it on some of the more expensive items. You also might be able to afford a few cool "frills" like a video game system or a foosball table.
Congrats on your new place. ;)

What you have is less important than how you take care of it. Keep a neat and clean house and all else will fall into place. If you have a small place, do what you can to avoid the oversized furniture that never fits well in smaller spaces. Less is more.
