If you want to take a few casual pictures, and quality isn't an issue, then you can just use your cell phone camera. For any other uses, you need an actual camera. The camera in a cell phone is a novelty toy; fun to take shots of your friends & stuff, but not meant for anything serious.
However, if it meets your photography needs, then by all means, use it.

I decided the opposite. I bought a digital camera and decided not to buy a cell phone as the camera take care of all those needs.

That's obvious and simple most people aren't professional photographer and don't want take a huge SLR and Lens!
a few peoples in the world can't see difference on pictures and they don't understand difference between a Lecia Lens with a glass! and any other can't buy SLR with MS PR 1000$ + Lenses 5000$ and therefore they should buy a Mobile with price 400$ or less for photography... and many other peoples wait and wait and wait.. they need a camera with 100Mega pixel + Lag time 0.00000001 ms + 1 Tele lens 500 mm and price 200$ ;)

Why? cell phones suck at photos. I will take my 10.2 MP DSLR over a sell phone pic anyday.
