I would like to keep the party small with Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and a few friends (about 30 people). My husband feels we should include her Great Aunts and Uncles, who she sees pretty often (about 60 people)

Please help!

WHOA! THATS A BIG PARTY! SOUNDS LIKE A BLAST! IF YOU ARE THINKING OF LARGER PARTY, I WOULD SUGGEST HAVING IT SOMEPLACE WHERE THE GUESTS CAN SPREAD OUT LIKE A PARK, OR LARGE PIZZERIA, OR RENT A PLACE OUT. IF IT WERE ME, I WOULD GO FOR THE SMALLER SIZED PARTY...OR ANOTHER OPTION WOULD BE TO HAVE TWO PARTIES, OR EVEN THREE SMALLER GET TOGETHERS SO EVERYONE CAN FEEL INCLUDED. BEST WISHES. HAVE FUN!

Too many people can be overstimulating to a child. I agree that if you have a large number you should have it outside so that it is in an open area. Imagine how loud that many people would be inside. I've had both a small one and a large. They both worked out great. i did the large one at a park that had a gazebo in case of rain.

Birthday parties for 1 year olds are really trying on the kids. I think the party should be much smaller than you are intending, like 10 people or so. You should think about having more than one party. Maybe different people could host different parties to minimize the work for you.

As mothers we want to keep the party small it is easier for us and the child but dad is proud of his achievement hey he made a child. Just look at it this way more presents! You may have to compromise I did for my son's 1st birthday bash and he obtained many gifts and gift cards that came in very good use.

Oh my Gosh hon, the first birthday we invited everyone short of the mailman (we heard he had other plans) It was insane. We had about 45 people to watch my daughter stick her face in the cake. I figure invite who your husband wants, if they don't want to come they won't. It might be more work but the pictures are well worth it. Don't worry the numbers drop as the years rise. Happy Birthday to your little one. Enjoy it.

The number of guests doesn't matter. It's all about how the party would be celebrated. Remember, it's your kid's 1st birthday party... you don't want to have superflous comments about the birthday bash you're going to have!!!
Talk it out real good with your husband. He is your ally, not an adversary.
