Ok here is what I would do if I were you:
1. You need to become a resident of Mass. That doesn't mean you have to live there but find the cheapest piece of property you can and make it your primary residence.
2. Have him get a visitor's visa in order to get here.
3. Go to Mass. and get married.
4. Then file all the INS papers necessary for a married couple... fees apply btw.
5. If you get denied, I would then sue the government based on the law that forces all states to recognize other state's heteorsexual marriages and sue INS for discrimination.
If you can't get him here in order to get married in Mass., the harder road would be to get married in his country then apply for a marriage certificate in Mass. Afterwards, go from there. This would be the harder road.
Good Luck but I'd hurry because they are saying the rightwing is working very hard to get gay marriage overturned in Mass.

No, getting married in Maasachusetts will not help as far as a visa for him to stay. That is only state recognition, NOT federal. If your boyfriend is from a country that does not require a visa to visit, he can just come here. If he is from a country that requires a visa, you can invite him as a guest, but the BCIS will never issue him a marriage visa, like you could do if he was a she.
Your question depends on a number of factors that are not clear from your question.

Good luck - there isn't much you can do, due to the lack of marriage laws in most locations.
I would suggest you speak with an immigration attorney or agency for the best answers.
I think the worst choice would be to find a woman and arrange a "marriage of convenience" - this is messy and doesn't always work out.

All he needs is a visa or passport & a plane ticket to the U.S. Then apply for citizenship, no marriage needed.

It'd be better if you moved to his country and became a citizen there.
