I like my Cuisinart quite a bit. It filters the water so you're using clean water. They're not cheap, though.

If you want to make good coffee in a cheap pot, use cool, filtered water and grind your beans very finely. Even though my maker filters the water, I usually pour filtered water in it, so it is filtered twice, and it tastes great.

I think it's really the quality of the coffee that makes the differance. That and a clean coffee maker.

Gevalia coffee makers make the cheap stuff taste good. Their coffee is really good too!

Personally, I prefer a Bunn. I think it might be the speed at which it makes coffee that really makes me enjoy it, although the taste seems to be smoother as well.
