The money has the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" printed on it. When you pick up money off the ground you're receiving a reward from God. God is providing for you.

So you can give it back to the person that it belongs to and stop someone from picking it up who may use it for the wrong reasons. If the person gives it to you as a thank you thats cool too, that shouldn't be our motive but it is cool if that happens. Besides as believers Ephesians 6 says
Ephesians 6:8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free.

It only takes a second.
Suppose that you pick up a penny. If it takes a second, you are getting income at the rate of $36 per hour (3600 pennies per hour), which is nothing to sneeze at unless you are the CEO of some big corporation.
For larger coins or bills, the average is even higher. It only takes a second to pick up a dollar, but that rate is $3600 dollars an hour! Who else can make that much?

b/c it's money. they say picking up a penny will bring good luck, but i say picking up a 5 or 10 dollar bill will bring some food for the day:-)
