He died of the cross, and rose again. This is the death and rebirth that all Christians must undergo in order to become children of God. He was the sacrifice, but because He's God, he can ressurect himself. (And please, dont use pathetic word play to try and avoid the truth)

Ancient mythologies demanded sacrificial blood to atone the Gods, it was customary to sacrifice domesticated animals for this purpose. This practice was not rooted in the belief that the Gods needed blood to be apeaced as the priests would have their parishioners believe, it was a much more realistic demand. The parishioners were for the most part farmers and so they had their own plants vegetables and flocks of animals, animals that they regularly killed and ate. The priests however did not engage in farming and so they would depend exclusively on the handouts from the farmers to survive. The farmers would regularly give plants and grains because of the abundance but not animals and so, the priestly class suffered an animal protein deficiency. To combat this they said that the Gods demanded blood sacrifices in order to be apeaced or bad things would happen to the farmers. Once the animal had been killed in the name of this or that God, it would make no sense to have that meat go to waste and so the priest would take it with them and eat it.
This worked well for the priestly class for several millennia, when the Judeo/Christian mythology arose it was based on the prior mythological beliefs. This resulted in the carrying of the sacrificial blood letting of animals ever present in the old testament. By the time of the new testament and the crucifixion of Jesus they used the concept of apeacement of the Gods (now God) by changing into atonement for your sins. Because by this time currency had been developed the priests now demanded donations in $$ or the equivalent of the land at that time, and so there was no need to demand animal sacrifices as they could buy their meat in the market with the money given to them.
There was no sacrifice of the ‘son of God’, it was simply the way in which they changed the story so that their parishioners would keep on giving cash for the priestly class cause.

Let's see---The Word was made flesh---and as Christ hung on the cross, he took the sins of the world onto himself--the sins of the world. I don't know about you, but I can't even grasp the vast depravity of the sins of this world. You think Charles Manson looks bad---can you imagine what God saw in the face of His Son that day?
Unless you've been betrayed by the people you loved, the people who were your best friends for years; unless you've been arrested by your church home, then taken to a cruel and angry court, then scourged with whips that had razor blades on the end, then beaten with clubs, then had a crown of 3-inch thorns dug into your head, then made to carry a piece of wood approximately 1 mile up a hill to hang there and die for people who hate you------then I would suggest you're having a good day.
The sacrifice----if you can honestly say that watching your Son die in a manner such as that is not a sacrifice, then I would suggest you just think on it awhile.

How would like to see your son suffer and die for a world of people who at the time really didn't care? Whether he is dead or not, Christ DIED FOR YOU. He became the ultimate sacrifice, and he rose again to prove that not even the sin of this world can compare to the sacrifice he made.

He gave his only Begotten son. That means Christ was perfect and God had to "leave" him. You know, "Why hast thou forsaken me?" God had to let Christ be the sacrifice for our sins because he knew we would sin and could not take the punishment for the sins. The point of him living, being resurrected, is so that WE can be resurrected.
1 Cor 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." He had to open the gate for us to have eternal life. The sacrifice is that he already suffered EVERYTHING...so you don't have to if you live worthily. He didn't have to...he wanted to because he loves us so much!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Its a metaphor about how to get in touch with a deeper aspect of your being, god is the mystery of all life and of yourself, and to get in touch with that you have to be like Jesus let go of your egotism, and open the mind and the hart to there full capacity, and you will enter a state of consciousness that is beyond duality, no birth no death, outside the cycle of existence which is filled with pleasure and pain and into eternal life. the sacrifice is you, can you sacrifice you ego and let yourself enter into a larger context, into eternal life?
