What's really going on there? Is Lucifer performing a function, or rebelling? It's Jesus that sends people to Hell, right?

The Bible says Lucifer burns in Hell with the rest of the sinners.
I think the idea of him running Hell comes from the Dante's Inferno.

Depending on what you believe, in the New Testament, when Jesus was crucified on the cross, he descended into Hell and defeated Satan. While this has not come to pass in the physical world, God (who operates in eternity, not by our time frames) has been triumphant in the spiritual domain. As to whether or not Lucifer is performing a function, remember that Lucifer made a conscious decision to defy God and claim to be an equal. It was not put upon him by God. That is where man gets his "freedom to choose". So, for those who make a "conscious decision" to not believe in God or the power that He has, those people that go to hell, make their own choices. Jesus does offer redemption however to anyone who will ask. Until the end of time, when God has finally allowed the physical Earth to complete it's mission, Lucifer will always be in competition with God over men's souls. The Bible also states that when Jesus returns to Earth, Lucifer will be physically bound and tossed into Hell , along with his cronies, for eternity.

1. There is no eternal damnation or a Hell as defined as fiery torment. The words translated Hell are Hades and Sheol, both of which mean the Grave. The concept of fiery hell is not scriptural and violates gods quality of Justice. It is not a fit punishment for the crime. As humans we cannot commit any atrosity worse than death, therefore we cannot have a punishment worse than death.

2. Lucifer is a name assigned to the devil later in years. The bible never calls the devil Lucifer. He is simply called Satan the Devil, which means opposer and slanderer.

3. He is not hired by god to run hell. He was kicked out of heaven along with the other angels that followed his thinking and opposition to God and is dwelling upon the earth. Invisible, just like all the other angels. He is a fallen angel, not some red horned evil looking creature with a pitchfork and spikey tail.

4. Jesus does not condemn people to hell. A person dies as a result of imperfection and sin and goes to the grave. They set in the grave and await the resurrection. Heaven and Hell as rewards violates the need for Jesus as the Messiah, it eliminates the whole concept of the Resurrection and Judgement day. They are simply used as Feel Good teachings or ways of getting people to worship out of fear rather than love.

I don't think Lucifer is really an actual being. I think the story of Lucifer is a metaphor for us chosing to leave God out of our lives. Heaven and Hell start right here on earth, and we are the ones that are running it.

Remember Job? God pointed him out to Satan! Yes Lucifer is obeying God by running Hell! He has no choice!

Good question. I don't think he is obeying God by "running" hell as you say, I think he is still rebelling using the central part of our existence "Free Will" to get as many souls as he can. God gave us the free will to choose what to do and think and whether or not to have a relationship with Him and that is what sends us to heaven or hell...not Jesus. What kind of world would it be if we could not choose the Lord, if we had no free will. We were created to give Him praise and wanting the Lord in your life is a choice of praise.

Lucifer has nothing to do with God and God has nothing to do with Lucifer. They are totally absent from eachother. That's why hell is supposed to be so awful, because it's eternal seperation from God.

Lucifer is just obeying God. He is still under God's commands. He rebelled because God allowed him to do so (because God can change his rebellious heart if he would like to). God allowed him to rule hell and to rule people whose hearts are inclined to evil.

Lucifer must live within God's will like the rest of us. He can not avoid God's soveriegnty.

We send ourselves to hell by rejecting God. Injustice is when a criminal is not sent to jail as his crime would have otherwise have it.
