This question again. Instead of starring up into the stars wondering to yourself why youre here, you should out there kicking a$$ and taking names. Look at a human life over the course of the Earth, our lives are nothing more than a blink. In the end result, what does anything matter? Unless youre a person like an Adolph Hitler, Jesus Christ or Ghandi, most people are going to forget about you anyway. Live the your life to the fullest and try to kick major-a$$ in the process. Nobody knows whats going to come next. We know that if we lived on the Earth long enough, the Sun is going to expand into a giant supernova and engulf half of our planetary system anyway, so why worry yourself over one little life? Youre on the Earth to make a difference with your friends, family, associates, significant other, pet or maybe you've made a huge difference in someones life, someone whom you've only met one time. Who knows? I dont. But I will tell you this, there are people on this planet that are glad that youre here. THAT is the meaning of life. Long after you die, your flesh is going to become wormfood and your bones are going to turn to dust, unless your an immortal super-hero that is. So stop wasting time wondering whats out there and why youre here, just go and have fun. Live a life, try to do the right thing and above all, be happy. As far as I can tell, you only get one shot at it.

Different people seem to have different ideas on the matter.
I have heard several times that we are here for a reason and that would explain those that die young as they have fulfilled their destiny whether it was to help and influence someone else or something seemingly more great!
It would seem to me we should do the best that we can do in whatever career we have however humble. Perhaps we have someone in our lives we want to look after such as our kids, parents or just a friend.
There must be a time to have fun and it would be nice to have a reason to smile every day. Whatever the reason, we are lucky to be here.

the answer to ur question is as difficult as simple ur question is. and i don't think i'm the right person to answer this question. i am not too sure either why we are on this earth, but i have a few "theories".

first, the meaning of life could be to stand the "test", and "pass" the test with flying colours. the only thing is that we have to decide for ourselves what is the correct "syllabus" (the correct path that we need to follow in life). we come across different syallbi and ways of "answering the questions" (reacting to problems in life). when we pass this test, that's when we attain Moksha or Nirvana

second, the meaning of life could be to actually find the meaning of life!! throughout our lives we all r looking for this meaning, but only very few find it. and when they find it, they r at peace, needing nothing more, desiring nothing more. so i guess when we do find the meaning of life, that's it. the aim of our lives is achieved.

so i m myself confused about the "meaning of life". if u ever find it, tell me about it too at shivangsg@yahoo.co.in

If you are not sure why you are on this earth, then it's probably because you don't have enough love and loving relationships in your life.

Life is all about relationships. You start your life within your family. Your parents and other relatives create meaning for you with their love for you and with their relationships with you. When you become older and learn to love others and make relationships with them, then you begin to create your own relationship and your own meaning in your life and in the lives of people around you.

The meaning of life is something people have to create through developing loving relationships with others. And the more and the stronger loving relationships you have in your life, the more meaning you have in your life.

A loving couple never asks why they are on this earth. They know why. They are here to love each other. A loving mother with small children never wonders why she is on this earth. She knows she is here to love and to take care of her children. Loving relationships create meaning for everybody like this, even for religious people who believe that God loves them.

The reason why people have so much difficulty answering this question 'What is the meaning of life?' is because there is no adequate answer in words and in ideas that will make you feel satisfied. To find satisfation you must create your own answer, not with words, but with deeds and feelings of love. And it's a question for which you must create an answer with those close to you every day in your life.

You are here to love and to be loved.

Having empathy and compassion for all living things. If you aren't quite sure what those two things entail then let me help.

em·pa·thy : Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives.

com·pas·sion : Deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it.

Imagine what the world would be like if we could just put ourselves in the other beings place for a moment and then try to do what we can to make them feel as happy and content as we want to feel.

The way I look at it, there is a reason there are females and males, were here to keep this planet populated and to grow our familes, teach, learn, enjoy the moment, dont look back, we are passing on information to our youth. This world will exist as long as we the people take care of it.

Have you ever wondered about the reason of our existence? Have you ever wondered why we die, and where we go after death? What will happen to us in the end? Have you ever asked yourself why God made the earth and all that is in it under man’s dominion? Why were the night and the day, and the sun and the moon created? What are we supposed to do during our lifetime? Were we created just to eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves before we die? As one poet put it:
“I do not know whence I have come.
I saw my feet walking on the road.
As they please I go and stop.
What am I doing here?
How did the road find me?
I do not know! I do not know! I do not know! ”

God has emphasized in many verses of the Qur’an that He did not create us without purpose. He said: “What! Do you think that I created you simply in jest? And that you would not be returned to Me?” (23:115) He also said: “What! Does man think that he will be left to roam at his will?” (75:36) In addition, He said: “Do people think that they will be left to say: “We believe,” and they will not be held accountable?” (29:2)
Indeed, God Has created human beings for a purpose and with a purpose: TO WORSHIP HIM ALONE (Monotheism). He said: “I have not created the Jinn and humankind except only to worship Me. I don't require provision or feeding from them. Surely Allah is the All-provider, the Possessor of all strength, the Firm.” (51:56-58) In fact, all prophets told their people to worship God alone (Monotheism) and shun worshipping His creation (Paganism). God said: “I assuredly sent among every people a messenger with the command: Worship Allah and avoid worshipping false gods.” (16:36)
Prophet Abraham, for example, believed in One God, who had no partner. Anyone who holds a different understanding of God than this has contradicted the religion of Abraham and follows falsehood. God says in the Qur’an: “Those who reject the religion of Abraham make fools of themselves.” (2:130)
Prophet Jesus was reported in the Gospels to have said: “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only’.” (Luke 4:8)
Prophet Jacob also said (in the Qur'an) to his people: “Indeed, those which you worship besides Allah are only names that you and your forefathers have established, for which Allah has sent down no authority. The command belongs only to Allah. He has commanded that you worship none but Him. That is the right religion, but most people do not understand.” (12:40)

Real happiness and peace can be ONLY found in submitting to the commands of the Creator and the Sustainer of this world. God has said in the Qur’an: (Truly, in remembering God do hearts find rest.)
(Qur’an, 13:28)

On the other hand, the one who turns away from the Qur’an will have a life of hardship in this world. God has said:
(But whoever turns away from the Qur’an, he will have a hard life, and We will raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment.) (Qur’an, 20:124)
This may explain why some people commit suicide while they enjoy the material comfort money can buy. For example, look at Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), formerly a famous pop singer who used to earn sometimes more than $150,000 a night. After he converted to Islam, he found true happiness and peace, which he had not found in material success.

The true meaning of life is the sure knowledge of death, for without it, man would not strive to leave his mark on the world.
