Why not just have the head gear on and have it scored on points?

Head gear for boxers would make a lot of fights last too long, in my opinion. I am a big boxing fan, but it never had been a question in my mind as to why they don't wear head protection until I saw your question. I know that in kickboxing more protective gear is worn, of course you have feet coming at your head with the force of legs behind that, instead of just arm strength, too.

Because the reason for boxing is to see who can hit their opponent the hardest in the head in order to score a Knock Out. With a helmet, this would be impossible to accomplish. The purpose for two grown men to box is to knowingly show who is the toughest waiving the necessity to wear head gear.

It comes down to money. The average fan likes to see knockouts. Most people, like the idiots that supplied other answers, don't know what boxing is all about. Therefore, what draws them to the sport is the blood and brutality of boxing. The focus of amateur boxing, is on safety. There are less deaths per 100,000 participants in amateur boxing than there is college football. Yet, the pro fights are what draws the fans. Olympic style boxing is very skilled and competitive, but it does not draw near the fans that Mike Tyson did. People like explosive knockouts.

Most boxers have the IQ of a turnip so they dont really have much to say about headgear and Most managers are lowlife scumbags who couldn't care less about their fighters so they won't change it. A few people are going to have to die before the corrupt world of boxing will change the rules about headgear.Lets face it boxing is only a small step from professional wrestling including predetermined wins .

Because it takes the fun out of the sport. Who cares if some boxer gets bashed in his head with headgear on?

When you're a professional, you're supposed to be able to defend your self. Another thing...Can you imagine Oscar DeLahoya going into the ring with 5K trunks and headgear? The faces belonging to the talent partly sell the sport. The thought is hilarious to me.
