I would choose a local charity that is run by someone who as walked the walk and talked the talk of whatever charity they are running. We have in my hometown this single mother of 7 who has opened up the soul-food diner. What makes her so special to me is she has all this family obligation and new business and she uses her business to help the homeless. She fixes meals for the few of the homeless that come to her establishment. So if I was able to help someone it would be her or someone like her. No red cross or anything like that. They are good places but there is a lot of bureaucratic bs that goes along with it.

Hard one. Definitely not an animal charity since animals are among the least important thing to me. That being said, I still don't understand why supposed "animal lovers" leave their animals of any kind in the car for any length of time at any time of the year. Even I wouldn't do that.

Probably Ally's House-it's a great organization for kids with cancer and their families. It helps pay for medical bills, housing, groceries, clothes, prescriptions, hospice care, and eventually funerals. My friend had a little brother who died of cancer at the age of eight, and watching the struggle her family had impacted me for the rest of my life.
