Not really. In fact, more and more countries are being encouraged that bananas be an alternate crop to poppies or tobbaco. I believe I heard recently that the Chiquita Banana Compnay (old name) in the Republic of Panama is in a bidding war - an Italian Company wants to buy it.
So, no, bananas will be around for a longggg time.

Bananas are not becoming extinct, but there is a growing problem with disease. The problem comes from the fact that all bananas sold in stores is a perfect genetic copy of every other banana that's grown, so that when a disease starts infecting one, it makes the entire crop susceptible to that same disease. This happened a few decades ago, and the current variety of banana became popular. Right now, researchers are trying a number of different things to combat that problem, including breeding a new variety of banana and making a genetically engineered banana that will resist disease.
Don't worry, there'll always be bananas though!

yes there is truth to that. as we all know banana is a fruit and all fruits have seeds but do you find seeds In a banana answer NO...banana is a fruit made by parthenogenesis in which you fool a plant to make a fruit without fertilization so no fertilization no seed... it was working well as to get a new banana plant you just a branch of that plant which has a bud and plant it.... so you can have a whole field of banana plants which are actually clones of one another... and if you get a disease that kills one plant all will be affected as they are genetically the same...
The problem is that we have no banana plant that produces seed so we can not have new banana subspecies.....
So finally it can go extinct ....
Take care bye...

Yes. I read an article a year ago saying that the bananas we eat are grown just to consume and they have been perfected genetically so much for consumption by man that they have little immunity/reproduction in the wild.

no it was only one type of banana that was affected by this problem.their are many types of bananas as their are apples so you are OK they will be around for a long time yet .by the way the first bananas had seeds in them and were rather unpleasant to eat by Cross breeding they have grown seedless bananas like they have done with other seedless fruits .

They've bread them to not have viable seeds. So, we can't plant new trees from existing bananas. But, I don't think they're going to go away anytime soon. Check out http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2664373.stm
