You can do whatever you want, but a red dress will be kind of stretching it. It depends on your family and friends, but be prepared to hear a lot of comments and questions if you wear red. I would recommend a lighter color if you don't want to wear white - like a pastel (blue, lavendar, pink) or a metallic (silver, champagne, etc). I think it's cool for a bride to choose a color she looks good in (many whites don't look good on a lot of people). If you really want to wear red, I'd recommend wearing a more neutral color and then accenting with red, in a sash or the underlay of the skirt. I also don't know exactly how formal you're getting, so the accent might be harder if you're not wearing a "wedding-y" wedding dress. But choose something you're comfortable in - if you hate white, don't wear it.

Although red seems a bit unconventional I don't believe there is such a thing as an absolutely necessary color for a wedding dress. It is your wedding and you should have the choice of what color your dress is.

Well...you could, it's your wedding. But people will think you are a little bizarre.
For one, Red is considered a Harlett's color (prostitute) and a lot of old fashioned or just plain old reletives might be insulted or offended, or just freaked out.
Their are color options that you can go with besides white, but I don't think that red or black are the best colors.
Like I said before, it's your wedding.

Of course it's okay! Did you know red is a sign of good luck in China and brides only wear Red? White is considered a color of death to them, whereas it means pure and virginity to the U.S. Go ahead with red. Maybe even infuse and Asia theme of gold, red and black! Have fun with it!

Absolutley-the only problem I found with going away from tradition at my wedding was the opinion of mom...but you know what-I didn't follow all the norms and she's over it now. Remember it's YOUR wedding.
