Do Australians feel the same way about Canada? Is there anyway you could swap places with the USA for us!

Australians like Canadians as well.

Let me tell you you are lucky living next to the US. We have a range of poor countries some of whom are struggling to maintain law and order and protect their populations. Australia is seen as a big brother who has to go in to protect the peace.

This year we had the East Timor crisis which required us to send troops to quell violence. There was renewed rioting in the Solomon Islands which required us to send police. Then we have Indonesia the largest Muslim nation in the world with its own offshoot of Al Queda in JI which decides to bomb sensitive sites for Australians such as Bali. In contrast you have the world's biggest superpower that you are fundamentally friendly with allowing you to reduce defence expenditure. The relationship between Canada and the US is that between a big and little brother with occasional niggles but when push comes to shove the big brother will stick up for his little brother.

The one advantage of our situation is that we have better weather. Let me tell you have a much better neighbor.

I'm an Aussie and have quite a few Canadian friends over here and recently exported a sister over there so we might be slowly combining our nations anyway.
In gereral I think we can relate better to each other than we do with Americans because our histories, lifestyles and ideals are more similar.
Australia is happy to wait to become a republic when all the ramifications of the change have been worked out (things seem pretty good as they are here, so we tend to take a don't fix it if it isn't broken attitude, personally I think it would be good for Australia to become a Republic, but I'm content to wait).
America fought a war to become independent and doesn't seem to have ever stopped fighting for what they want since (even if it is to the detriment of other nations unfortunately). You've got to admire their enthusiasm sometimes but it's very hard to imagine ourselves being that way given the rather large social, economic and human costs that come with it.

Australians think that Canada is way too cold. They have no opinion on Canadians.

LOL I live in Michigan and dont take too much umbrage for that remark. Canada would just add to the rabbit problem that Australian already seem to not like how ever.
